brakes

bought these off ebay to fit to my saxo asuming they were 283 mm ones from a 307 hdi.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=008

turns out they are 405 mi16 266mm brakes

how do i make them fit as they carrier needs grinding (done this) to stop them hitting the hub.

unfortunatly the pads do not line up with the disks when mounted on the hubs.
the bolt holes on the carriers however line up fine with the hubs
how do i make em fit, different disks etc.

i assumed that if they fit a 205 they would fit a vtr. as every other brake conversion does

With no pics, no caliper make & model, no idea what car they're off, what discs you're trying to fit etc, we're gonna have to be magicians to work out what you need to do.

fair play. il get some now.

there girling callipers for the time being
  4. #4
it says in the above post what cr they are from, as far as i know the disks are from a late 405 mi16 as are the callipers

    lucas/girling.

do they have 54 or 57 stamped on them? pics of them would be good. i get the feeling they are 406 brakes, which won't fit, i mean they'll fit on the strut with grinding, but they won't fit and i can't be arsed to explain why Or they're the right brakes with the wrong discs.

Pics would be good, should be able to work it out from that.

these are the disks i was supplied with (obviously i will get new ones if they fit)

these ones seem to stick too far out.

these are the callipers from 405 mi16 (supposedly)

anything else you want pics of?
  8. #8
    54 on em alex

if you look for the mi16 disks and 206 gti disks they are the same part number. the pads however are different.

you sure you've got the correct discs?

so the calipers fit the car but not with the discs on. is it a problem with disc offset, as in the disc sits too far in/out from the hub? or is it something else?
  10. #10
you got it, disk sits too far out, looked on brakepartsonline and 307 1.4 hdi are a bigger overall height so will bring the disk furthe into the hub. will check the disks i have with the measurements supplied by brakeparts online,

im sure the disks should fit as long as they are the mi16 ines as they are the same disks as the 206 gti.

will be trial an error, will first idnetify the disks i have tho

    saxo vtr disks -

    overall height - 34.5mm
    thickness -20.5

    307hdi1.4 disks

    overall height - 34.5mm
    thickness - 22mm

    405 mi16 disks

    overall height -27.9
    thickness - 20.5
    looking good i think?

measure the overall height of your current discs, put them face(that the wheel sits on) down somewhere flat and solid, then measure from the flat surface to the back of the disc, simple and effective. Bet you've got the old thinner discs.

edit: i get the feeling you've got 406 brakes. got any pics of the pads or the pad shape?
  13. #13
no pics yet, i will sort summat out.

if there "54" callipers arnt they 405.

can they be made to fit if they are 406.

wish id never bought these now, wouldnt have if i knew they wernt 307 brakes like he said they were
  14. #14
Hate to say it mate, but 405 mi16 calipers and discs dont fit the saxo's. I tried it on my 205 and they didnt go on for the reason you stated.

If they did go on they would be a popular upgrade for the mi powered 205's, but they dont fit.

then why the fuck did that guy sell em that way in the ebay add.

where do i stand with this now then? cos im stuck with some useless brakes now. they were bought through ebay so surely i can do something. ive already left feedback so what can i do.

im fucking sick of people advertising stuff incorrectly, rant over.

Have you measured your discs yet, and worked out how much approx they would need to move to fit, cos then we can work out what discs will allow the setup to fit.

i originally got some 266mm's off a 406 hdi (a breakers off ebay), calipers, discs, you know, the lot. If i remember right they measured 260mm across the disc, bastard breaker guy swore they would fit a saxo which they plainly did not...
i tried to fit these and i think i had the same problems you describe.
i came to the conclusion they do not fit at all, wrong offsets.
got a set of 283mm from a 307sw (reputable guy this time) and bob's your mothers brother.
