    hi, the story so far,

i bought a non running vts with the intention of getting running and enjoying for many a year/mile, the old enginr had been run with no oil and proper buggered it, so i decided to buy a new "running engine" i use that term as ive put it in and its not "running", alll the valves were bent and it was almost as bad as my dead engine, so ive had the head skimmed new valves in where they needed to be in and ground in, a new piston, and still no joy, ive taken it to two seprate garages who have spent time going over it telling my they cant do it or they arent sure, ive got good compression, a spark i think but its hard to tell as im doing it on my own so werether its a good spark or not i have no idea and its got fuel. im in devon and if anyone can get ity running the cash is theirs no questions asked, even if you have to take something off your own car to get it running and take it off when you leave i just want to hear it running and someone to say thats whats wrong with it with mine plugged in it works and yours look it doesnt. im just over the bridge in cornwall but pretty much plymouth. can anyone help??????
my numer is 07961780640 as my girlfriend isnt letting me on here much cos ive been on here ages and on the car for ages and shes had almost as much of it as i have.

I'd have a look at double checking all the timing is all okay.

If the timing is all okay - I'd put new plugs in it, and check that the injectors are firing when trying to turn it over (just aim them at a rag) - if not then may need to press the red button at the top of the engine bay (fuel cut off switch)

If they are firing all okay, then check the coil pack is all okay/firing.

If you could tell us a bit more about what the engine does when you try and start it, we might be able to help a bit more.

Plus try and get someone to help, even if they just turn the engine over by the key, so you can check if thei njectors are firing + the coil pack is working.

my m8 had a mk 2 vtr the was simular turned out to be the coil was breaking down and was something to do with injectors was an easy fix thou

can you turn the engine over by hand ok ? have you got fuel going into the engine ?

what happens when you try to start the car?
    does it turn over?
does the fuel pump prime ?
    check all fuses
poke the fuel cut off switch
    change the spark plugs

Its hard/impossible for anyone to say what it will be without seeing/hearing how it's running

Independent garages? If so it might be a good idea to take it to a Citroen garage as they will have seen thousands of Saxo's and you have a much better chance of them knowing how to get her running sweet again .....

Or just try to describe it better like raunchz said.

IMO I wouldn't take it to Citroen yet, I'd check the basics first, as they charge around £60/hour so before you know it you've got a bill for £100's

Also, these independent garages will generally have the knowledge of Citroen, without the ££££ - if both garages don't have a clue as to what's wrong, I'd be thinking it was somethign terminal tbh, or these garages didnt want to try and fix it for one reason or another.

Check the basics, and maybe try and give us a clue as to what happens whilst you crank it over - we might be able to help.

Could be a wiring issue since you've changed the engine over. Also, presuming you've put the new engine in, you should be able to check whether it's getting spark and/or fuel, or even give us some more information.

hi there, what year is your car? and what year is the new engine?
are you using the engine loom that was on your car to start with or did the new engine come with a loom?
i'll give you a ring tomorrow and see if i can help you out.

how long has the car been standing mate before you bought. if the car is left in the same place for a long time the petrol can go off which would case it not to fire. open the petrol cap and see if is smells bad

cheers everyone, when you turn the ignition on you can hear the fuel pump prime itself, then stop with a few clicks. when you first try and start it it makes all the right noises indicating compression is there. but im buying a compression tester today to double check it. when you 1st try it in the morning the 1st 3 turns it almost seems to be firing on one cylinder doesnt then it will turn over for hours without even trying. going to try and check the injectors after the compression. i know what you mean about citroen garages. i can imagine them as being expensive! its got a standard loom. not sure how long the petrols been in their mind but not that long i dont think

Check inlet manifold is screwed down properly. Make sure sensor is plugged into side of inlet manifold correctly.

I can help.. dont want any money though..

may sound stupid but check the engine kill switch isnt pushed in for any reason, its the big red button next to your passenger side suspension strut and the power steering reservoir
  17. #17
Yes.. I was thinking along the same lines as you Jim.. get the easy stuff out of the way first..
  18. #18
    Or? Your immobilser maybe?
  19. #19
I wondered what that button did! Thought it may have been a starter switch! I dont think its immobilized as when I type the code in it goes green. Is. There an easy. Way off checking for a spark? Cos its pretty tough cos it goes so far in. I have found one thing tho, at the back of the head is 3 sensors a blue one on the head, and two on the alloy block which holds the water pipes. Which are green and brown. The brown one isn't connectedto anything and I can't see anything to connect to it. Is it a spare or am I missing a connector

leemc2008 cheers for the offer, I'll double check everything and if you get it going of more than happily sort you out. Even if its just beer and petrol money
  21. #21
If the kill switch has been activated.. the car wont start.. just turn over and cough..
  22. #22
True, the battery has been disconnected loads of times since then tho cos I couldnt figure out the alarm. I take it it just resets itself if the battery is taken off?

    Any luck with this mate?

mate i think its a spare when i put in a new engine theres no plug for that one. afaik its for a second fan but dont quote me on that.

i have ocd and i spent 7 houtrs studyiny the loom looking for a plug on the loom for that sensor but there is non

    check coil and injectors tbh.

I am sure I read something in the engine conversion tread (although I have never done one) saying that the immobilizer needs to be unlocked of it will not start.... might apply here.
  26. #26
take the plugs out and the coilpack plug the plugs into the coilpack and touch them on the rocker cover and get your bird to turn the ignition over it should spark like said check the fuel cut off switch and what ecu are you using because theres a chance that its not unlocked to the engine and go round the whole engine checking every plug evetywhere cleaning each sensor and making sure that they are connected properly and check the plug down on the passenger side chassis leg give it a good checking over bloody cars are so much fun arent they lol
  27. #27
not the best way to check spark tbh, compression in the cylinder is alot higher than atmospheric pressure so doesnt really give a true check for spark. As everyone else said, check all sensors etc
  28. #28
at least if theres a spark there if its sparking at all then you will know that theres something there
  29. #29
Still any luck mate? might be around plymouth over the weekend i dont mind having a look in not worried about money.
