Rear beam and handling..

Changed my rear beam as both sides had slight play and it rattled when you hit a bump or went over a speed hump (I thought it was the spare wheel cage, that type of noise). The new one has play in the passenger side but its very minimal, I cant even see the arm moving on the axle so have thought it could be the wheel bearing as the discs are brand new.

The car is higher at the back now as the axle was standard but the front isnt low (H+R's) so doesnt sit bad, just has front rake. When cornering at 60-70 around sweeping bends where Id be comfortable going quicker the car feels really unstable, asif the rear moves about. Im using the dampers that were on the beam and am aware that I should put my low mileage ones on but Im not convinced thats the problem. Anything else I can check?

get the ride height sorted and find out where the play is, that will be your main prob imo.

Any play is bad, also ride height difference will make the back end pretty light.

I'm going to lower it tommorrow (Well attempt to, wethe or not the torsion bar comes out is a different story) so when they're out, I'll whip the trailing arms off and have a look at the axle. If the stub is pitted etc, I'll see if I can get it machined down and a sleeve fitted over it to the bearing size.

wat noise did it make was it a high pitched circular motion squeek?

The old beam made a rattle, asif the spare wheel cage was rattling up and down. The new one is silent....

check condition of your beam mounts. One may have perished. Swap over the dampers and then get your new beam condition checked.

Haven't had chance to lower it yet but I'll sort that tommorrow and have a play when it's in the air. If the play is minimal what chance is there of the stub pin being pitted? Dead cert. or is it 50/50 as I can get a bearing set from 106 parts....
