driving with catcam 708's without remap to fcs.

  1. #1
heard that there is going to be half price remap at fcs, so thinking of putting my catcams in and driving there without a remap then getting it remapped there.

can any1 tell me if it will be ok to drive on? it is bout 2 and half hour drive from my house.

cheers, i know it will use a lot of fuel.

also who are the company doing the re-maps? do u have to book?
  2. #2
give them a call before hand and make sure they can remap the standard ecu.

there are only a few places that can
  3. #3
dont no what company it is that are doing it, just need sum more info on it, etc
  4. #4
oh right, erm ill see if i can find out

    its sptuning doing the remapping...
  7. #7
    cheers for that reppd!

still need to know weather i should drive it before its re-mapped? any1?

if you're running a standard ecu with catcams, as long as theyre timed up properly, you will be able to drive them

i wouldnt recommend you ragging it at all, cos you will funk your engine, but for steady driving for a short distance you will be fine.

ill also be dubious as to what this tuning company can achieve in a day - it should take a good 5 hours to get a decent map out of it, so dont expect it to be perfect, and cold start will definitely be shite.

    good luck!

what damage could it do to the engine??

not having a dig, just asking.

the catcams will be allowing a lot more air in, whereas the ecu will still be allowing for the lift for the standard cams, so will not be putting as much fuel in as is required for the catcams. so there is a great possibility of it running lean - not good

does the standard ecu not self adjust?

the MEMS system on rovers does - hence the reason why u cant ever chip a rover or mg - apart from a few of the newer models
  13. #13
not to an adequate amount. also ignition timing will be all over the shop
  14. #14
again i thought the ecu could retard the timing to compensate - i can appreciate not to adequate amount, but surely close enough!!

ach well you learn something new everyday!!

if it could do all that, then there would be no need for standalone engine management

its 2 fairly simple tasks that standard alot of ecu's can manage!!

all the cars out just now that are equipped with VVC or variable timing can do this.

standalone management is for applications not designed for factory spec to make the most out of specific modifications.

i.e. turbo-ing an N/A car, or charging it, some applications with throttle bodies.NOS etc...

so not reccomended to drive 2 n half hours 2 fcs then? gona ring them first before doing anything
i fink this will be best.

my m8 (saxo-ron) got newmans ph3 fitted to his car.
then 3hour drive to chip wizards and that was ok. spent about 4hours to map it like!

cheers mate thats what i needed to know.

mate, i drove my vts for 6 month on standard ecu and 708s in. done trackdays and 1/4 miles and never missed a beat. was just as good on fuel as it was standard.

    ahhh mint
just out of interest, what were you getting 1/4 miles? when it wasnt remappd etc.
  23. #23
15.1 iirc was a few year ago so might be wrong.
