Engine Knocking and Behaving Badly...

    Don't worry, not the 307 - that's running brilliant.

This a Daewoo Matiz 796cc on X reg. It's running extremely bad at the minute and doesn't sound healthy at all. It has 54,000 miles on it, which isn't bad considering the age but here are the problems so far.

    - VERY bad and lumpy idle - seems like it's getting starved of petrol.
    - Knocking sound coming from right hand side of engine (as you look at it).
    - Cracking sound coming from engine.
    - Burning smell when using heaters sometimes or putting foot down.

Now I know it sounds fooked, but honest thoughts?

Not getting much feedback on Daewoo forum so need answers quick.

    Thanks,

    Luke

    Really?

    Maybe something to look at.

    Anybody else?

Gonna get under car today and have a proper look! I don't think it's even worth repairing as cambelt will be £150(ish), then find out what's wrong with fuel too.

Bring it round here and I'll give it a full service inc filter changes to see if that cures any of the probs. When was the last time the little beast was serviced?

    Cheers Craig.

I have mentioned servicing it too, just the knocking sound sounds more internal! It was serviced about September time I think, only covered 2,000 miles since then.

Could be the cam pulley that has worked loose. I had a similar problem with mine - the one that drives the alternator, because the rubber bush had worn away completely!

So it's something cheapish to repair then if that was the case?

The only issue now is that she does not like driving it, due to the fact it ain't running right and the burning smell can become quite excessive.

    Got it checked.

Cambelt is ready for going, about 3 teeth missing.
CAT is going, hence burning smell.

Will cost £350 to do, not worth it so it's going.

Good choice fella!!! for how much the car is worth it's not worth it!

    Exactly.

It's been changed for 2003 Corsa SXi with 37k on the clock.

Thanks for posting stuff related to the Daewoo Matiz 796cc. I have actually experienced the same thing with certain daewoo parts, but it didn't cost me a fortune to make the necessary replacements.
