VTR tuning questions

  1. #1
    At present I have a mk2 vtr.

I will be swapping the head to a ax gti head for better choice of cam and iirc bigger valves.

If I was to swap them over, would the original sensors be ok to plug straight into the head? Or is there a few sensors that would be left unplugged?

Also will the 3 plug ecu run with the head? Although I will be using a dastek for the tweeking so to say.

Before anyone says vts it, I don't want to do that, the vts engine is for the ax

I don't think that it would as easy as that!
Ax Gti head is much the same as a Blacktop Vtr one so would be an easy swop on an early Vtr.

The silvertops have a slightly different setup making things more tricky!

    what's different mate?

As the folk I have spoke to about it seem to say that they aren't.

Also another question, would the vtr injectors be up to the job?

port spacing on the inlet is different for a start.
  5. #5
I know the heads have different port spacings, that why I'm swapping the head bud

so what inlet are you going to use? as you wont be able to use your new sensors on the old style inlet and throttlebody.
  7. #7
I'm going to use a set of bike bodies.

So the head and block are fine together?
  8. #8
ah right, aye the head should match up fine.
not sure if there is any difference in the size of the cam pulleys though.

    top stuff mate.

Would be using a vernier as well. No point in a cam without one on the vtr!

Can you shed any light on the sensors/sensor plugs that I could run without?

    Ones I know
Map sensor - can use from each barrel of inlet.
Brake servo - have a take off near the right when looking at it, can't remember what number that is called, but closest to gear box.
Throttle position sensor - adapted to fit
    air temp?
    Throttel body heater?

Keep the info coming! info is better than fudging it up! lol

what ecu are you using? my mate is using gsxr bodies on his vts with kms ecu and using gsxr TPS.

take it off no1 cylinder fopr brake servo, most manufacturers have no1 at cam pulley end but the citroen decided to be different.

you wont need a map sensor mate either. i think they will just map it off throttle angle.
you want have a heater and you probably wont use the air temp sensor either.

probably going dastek q chip, cheapest for what I need and close to, as a place in town fits and maps them.

Knew the cylinder number was 1 or 4 lol.

So pretty much I can use all the existing wiring, even if I have to mod a little to fit the bike bodies (tps only one I can think of?)

Any idea if the vtr injectors are up to running a cat cam 4900645 (spoke to matt @ qep and this is what he recommended, and my mate Gary Muir runs it in his rally ax.

not sure about injector choice mate.
