offsets (tried searching)

  1. #1
tried searching but couldnt find anything maybe searching in wrong places , but what offset limit can be used with 20mm hubcentric spacers? cheers
  2. #2
what do you mean offset limit?

do you mean the highest offset you could use with 20mm spacers?

if so i would say 35 for no rubbing. you could fit upto around 42-45 but it will rub.

the best wheels have neg offset

obvioulsy it depends on the width of the wheels.

the offsets i mentioned are for 7j wheels.

for example if you wanted to fit 10j the offset would go down to 0 with 20mm spacers.
  5. #5
so i could fit et20 and et 23 without spacers?
  6. #6
you probably could but it will rub.

you really need a 5-10mm spacer.

you will get a better stance if you use 20mm spacers though
  7. #7
ET 28 with 20mm adaptors? would they fit , or could someone make me a list of ET guide with 20mm spacers cheers
  8. #8
    yes they will fit.

basically take away the thickness of the spacers in mm from the offset.

so et28 with 20mm spacers would be the same as et8 which is fine for a saxo.

saxo's are supposed to be et15 so the wheel will be spaced out of the wheel arch by 7mm which is fine as saxo's have the space to do that.

i am assuming the wheels are 7j. if they are any wider then you need to alter the offset to accomodate the extra width.

    ET 28'S are 7j yes

so how would they sit in my arches
  10. #10
they wont stick out of the arches if thats what you are worried about.

they will sit 7mm further out than the standard wheels.

you can easily space out the standard wheels 15mm and they would still sit under the arches.
  11. #11
but would it have a good stance being on 15's and only 7j all round , 14" borbet T's only available in 8j from dubmeister , and there ET23 on the 8j , and i can only get 20mm adaptors
  12. #12
    8j et23 would work with a 20mm adaptor.

the clearance on the inside of the arch would be the same as the standard wheel, so no rubbing BUT they would stick out 25mm further than the standard wheels.

i'm not sure if that would still be under the arch or not. i think it would be ok though.

all you need to do is hold a tape measure against the standard wheels and measure out 25mm. thats where the new wheels will sit.
  13. #13
well my OZ rims are on 20mm spacers atm but i dno were standard wheels sit as i dont have any
  14. #14
whats the offset of your OZ wheels?

if its et35 then they sit where the standard wheels do so you can just measure from them.
  15. #15
just thought my rears were 8j but they were on 20mm spacers , but thing is i cant remember the ET of them
  16. #16
My cars running an ET of 5 if thats any help to you:

So a negative offset will pop em out even more!
  17. #17
so your saying i could get the ET20's with 20mm spacers and they will be sat like flush with the rear arches
  18. #18
    Should do technically. ET20 minus 20mm spacers = ET0.

So imagine mine but 5mm more out.
  19. #19
but on 8j on the rear?
  20. #20
my rears when i had the gold sax
    8j

no, the extra width of the wheel pushes them out the arches more
  22. #22
    by how much?
  23. #23
if the wheel is 1 inch wider, thats about 26mm which is divided up on either side of the wheel. so, 13mm on the inside and 13mm on the outside.

so you need to alter the et to accomodate the extra width as cars dont usually have any spare space inside the wheel arch so you have to push the wheel out further.

this website may help you out a bit:

    wheel offset calculator
  24. #24
so what is saxo basic width then
  25. #25
    vts wheels are 15x7 et15

you can work the rest out using that website.
  26. #26
am i doing it right then , dya just add the normal Et of the new wheels?
  27. #27
Current Wheel Specs Width 7 inches Offset 15 mm

New Wheel Specs Width 8 inches Offset 23 mm

    Inner Clearance: 41mm less

(the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)

Outer Position: retract 15mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)
  28. #28
this mean they wil stick out bye 1.5cm at the rear
  29. #29
    is this correct ? anyone
  30. #30
    no, thats completely wrong.

you need to alter it until it says the inner clearance is the same otherwise you wont get the wheel on.
  31. #31
    i.e

7j et15 has the same inner clearance as an 8j et2

so the wheels that you are looking at are et23 -20 (from the 20mm spacer) = et3 which will be fine.
  32. #32
    what about the outer lip
  33. #33
it will stick out an extra 26mm
