Black Window Strips

Under the black strips, is it just the cars paint color? If i take them off and give it a good polish will it be like new? Wondering as the black stuff on mine are all bubbly and tearing round the edges.
Or is it best left on?

Its this bit by the way.....

heat gently and it will peel off, then use tar remover to remove any residue.

I need to strip mine to as I have this same problem but I peeled some of mine earlier and its looks like it is painted black underneath. Would this be correct on a silver VTR or should it be silver?

its the cars paint underneath just not sanded down still has the riple effect. gently heat them up not to hot then peel off. it will leave a glue behind just get some very thin and fast drying thinners and wipe of peice of pee to do u will have to take inner chanel moulding off. then use a polishing mop to tart up

Cheers guys I was pretty sure that was the case. It was a small area that I peeled off so i'll just have a better look later on a hot day.

just boil the kettle and pour it on the tape it should peel off all in one big strip then use autoglym glue and tar remover or wd40 and a polishing cloth to get the glue off if any is left u might be lucky and be left with paint that just needs wiping over
