just off the phone with a company near me asking about cams they dont seem to rate newman ones and had a bloke recently with his vts who had them put in and took back out cause they were shocking, anyway hes offered me kent cams p50's i think fitted dyno'd and everything for £500 am i right in thinking thats pretty good the cams are only £196 new!! hes says i will get a good gain with these too.

    so whats your question?

i think newman cams are very good....but if you dont get the correct type for what you need....then you will obviously not be very impressed with them.

In what was were they shocking?

I very much doubt he's doing you a remap included in that price....if he is....good price....but i wouldnt sy they were the best cams you could buy for fast road use.

pt51s will give your more power. Pt50s are ok, they will give more power over standard cams but are still quite tame. You can use PT51s on standard internals and tb.

Does that price included a remap? If so its damn good

yer i far as i no it is, he said pt51's wont make a massive difference over the 50's im not slating newmans at all just saying what he said to me that kent are better and he had a lad who had newmans who sold them up to get the kents.he says with pt50's and my current set up i should be running 145bhp. hes tuned and remapped many saxo with 50's 51's and he says theres nothing in it and recommended the 50's so £500 all in sound good and i should go for it?

People tend to run 150bhp-ish with 51s. I wont the most power for my money so i would ask for the 51s. They are a totaly different cam and have prooved on many engines that they make good gains.

Im yet to see any newman cams make as good as kent/piper/cat. They all seem to be 5-10bhp less

thanks for your help i will get a price on the 51's too, and 5-10hp is alot so il stick with kent cams. id be happy with 150bhp tbh should get that when i replace the manifold

I would say the average flywheel bhp with a full exhaust/manifold, decent filter, PT51s and a remap is 155bhp, seen some lower, seen some claim 160+ on single throttlebody, depends what rolling road etc

newman ph3 are very similar to catcam 708s with all the breather mods and a "good" remap make 160 bhp

that bloke seems to be full of shit as pt50s are regrinds and will be pretty shit imo.
i would forget what he has told you and go somewhere else with either pt51s, 708s, ph3s or bp285s.

To be honest it sounds like this guy is just trying to get rid of some 50's. If 51 are a wider cam then there must be a difference in it. Or perhaps the 50's are what he/she is used to fitting and mapping?

    dont bother with them.

I'd change the manifold before changing the cams & remapping!
