rev limited

    just wondering...

what happens when you hit the rev limiter? like does it just stop going or whatever

too pussy to push it all the way coz i dont wana blow my engine
  2. #2
lol the name says it all " rev limiter" , it just means it will limit you from revving any further, the revvs will bounce at the red line
  3. #3
lol fair enough.. i heard it kinda cuts the revs for a second.. so you lose power (down to around 2000revs) and have to build up again? is that what you mean
  4. #4
erm no, it will probably drop by about 100rpm so if your red line is 7000rpm it will bounce between 6900 and 7000 roughly

The rev limiter on 99% of standard cars shuts off the fuel

oh right.. so it does kinda cuts out for a second then?
  7. #7
yeah it cuts it momentarily until the revs drop below the set hard limit, then if they rise again (if you still have your foot planted) then it will cut again, and so on, thus the term "bouncing" off the limiter, to be completely honest, there never any need to do so, as peak power is always made before the rev limit on a standard car

this is why on a drag race its important not to it the said 'limiter' thus shift lights .

hitting the limiter slows you down, for that breif second your on it, your not accelerating. hense the pointless part

ooo thanks guys.. yeah i allways change gear well before i hit the limiter.. just never knew what happnd when u hit the limiter lol

can you buy anything that cuts the spark and just lets neat fuel run through your exhaust!

so when you change gear it louds like you have anti lag!!!

    that would be cool,

    Yes you can.

Our ECU has a spark cut rev limiter built in.
There are others on the market liek the BeeR limiter. you tube if for a vid.

I am glad I read this. I have never heard of Rev limiter and my engine made some real funny sounds when I was at really high revs feeling just like the revs were bouncing down a bit then going back up. My Saxo is new to me and I was worried there was something wrong with the engine!!

Cool, I guess I shouldnt rev so high!!

Fuckin hell don't think you saxo will last long if you drive like that

Hitting the limiter doesnt necessarily do damage to your engine! Infact, it does quite the opposite! It stop it from getting damaged by over revving.

Just when you do it, make sure its up to operating temperature, and dont hold it there for ages or something will go BANG!

can you actually get those B limiters for saxo's??

Like you say it will damage it if you doo it too much....but theres not a single thread of purpose hitting the limit....as your not creating good power at that end of the rev range.

there universal and wired into the loom.

Yes, i totally agree, but some people on here dont know what it is, so just hitting it in 1st or 2nd once isnt gonna do any damage. Its like sexually exploring your car!
