Optimum point for a gearchange in a VTR

    I don't understand how cars work really (or at all) but i have always heard the best point for a gear change is 3500 revs is this true. Wouldn't it be faster to push up to redline at 6000?

    Peak power is around 5500 or jut after i believe, changing gear around then is optimum.

    Does it affect the engine reliability at all changing up at higher revs?

    I always short shift believing it saves fuel..
