Manifold Heat Shield

   Hi,
   Cars making this really loud, kinda wierd pinging sound during / after a run. I once in a while hear it vaguely when running. Its very intermittent when cooling down (every 30 seconds or so), not like that rapid tinkle sound with other motors.
   I've had everything checked/done and the only thing it can be now is the Manifold Heat-shield > The other day I spilt water on it when hot and it made the familiar crack/ping sound.
   The centre bolt is loose on the shield and you can waggle it up and down - the two outer bolts holding it firm. Trouble is its well seized on and the bolt head is rusted to fook and I can't get any leverage on it to try and tighten it up.
   What to do? Can the head be broken off and the thread extracted?

   soak it with w/d for a few hours get it hot then try to remove it
   if it snaps doubt you will have enough thread left to get it out,
   drilling it is the next step
