1.1 performance gains

  1. #1
    Right before anyone says it,

    1) i am not going to get a furio/vt*, as its not my car to sell.
    2) i am not wasting my money trying to improve 1.1 performance, i will be stuck with this car for a while yet and i want to make it as good as it can be.

Right, now thats out of the way, out of interest what performance gains could be seen out of my 1.1 saxslow. Bear in mind it has 60 raging horses atm, and has an open cone piperX, with an ashley backbox on its way.

    So, with mods such as,
    • Raceland Enclosed filter
    • Supersprint fanimold (therefore de-catting)
    • Supersprint centre section
    • Ashley backbox

what kind of gains would i be looking at, and no smart-arse replies like 'noise gains'

And no this thread isnt a joke.

you sure it aint a joke?

    turbo my friend
  3. #3
lol yeah turbo, but otherwise I would say all the usual breathign mods

Nah mate. Ill leave that to Sophia bush.

    EDIT-beat me to it lol

And by the way sophia, is yours actually a 1.1 because its in a quicky which are normally 1.4s ? And if so, what gains have you seen from your turbo, (im not actually considering it, just curious).

With breathing mods, your looking at better engine response and a change in what pull you get in different areas of the rev range. It will be a little bit faster, but will most likely feel like a bigger increase than it actually is because of the noise.

Thats not taking the piss, its the same on VTRs tbh. Its hard to get power from saxos, theyre all about the handling. In my opinion, spend your money on a decent suspension setup and some decent wide alloys with good rubber and have fun in the backroads. Other than the VTS, saxos arent fast in a straight line

Yeah i see your point, im after a good sound to, got alloys, lowering is soon too, but a little more power would be nice, especially if i could do it without going crazy on the cash. So remap/cams are out of the question lol. I think ill wait for my ST to do that. *ponders*

    I'd say around 75 BHP.

Have a look at Scotts (Snewham) progress thread t get some ideas.

used to be a 1.1 but I also killed that so it has a 1.3 now as to what power it had all i will say is a bit more than a normal 16v

    Raceland enclosed induction scoop
    Fluffy dice

This is basically the same setup ^^^^ except i will have a 3" ashley backbox. So 15HP extra, 25% increase in power is very good.

    Discuss.

He didnt make 15 brake mate. Rolling roads arent accurate. Everyone on that event got stupid gains, std cars where way above factory figures. Youd be lucky to get 5 brake from those mods.

The main difference will be your power band changing a bit
  11. #11
Awww dammit, what a shame, thought it sounded good. O well.
  12. #12
Fluffy dice must add at least 5bhp surely?
  13. #13
Dont get me wrong, it will be more fun to drive and will no doubt put a smile on your face every time you get in it. But saxos arent powerful cars and the TU lumps arent holding back much power as std. The std air intake system is quite restrictive though

Another thing is that saxos are all about the power to weight ratio. Strip it for a day, seats and sound insulation are the main things to loose, aswell as heavy subs etc. And see what a massive difference it makes, much more than performance mods make

yeah, i thinking a bit of strippage would be interesting, but after fitting all my ICE it seems a bit of a waste. The sub and amp do weigh a fair bit.

However, i will need a new manifold at some point anyway, because my current one has cracked near the joint with the centre pipe and has been welded up, so i think i might aswell get the supersprint one while im at it.

    Some fancy FPR ~ £100/£200
Tubular performance exhaust manifold ~ £150/£300 ish
Free flow exhaust system ~ £200/£500 odd
    Ported throttle body ~£50
Cold air free flow filter ~£100/300
    Chip/piggy back ecu/Full engine map ~£100 to £600 ish
    Eko valve things ~ £50?
    Posh plugs ~ £60
    Fancy HT leads ~£50+
    Fully synthetic race oil ~£50
High octane fuel ~ few bob a tank

Net cost a hell of a lot!
Net gain in power, sub 10bhp. Some times you even get detrimental effects.

All very very ruff and may be way off on prices but just trying to point out how useless or at least very poor value mods like this can be. That is not to say there bad or pointless, though some of them are. Its just you have to make the more fundamental modifications to your engine to necessitate there use.

You may be best asking your self how much you want to spend and then seeing what you can actually get for that. Then see what that will give you. Then see what you think about it. You may not want it after you do that. Or you can do it the other way round and ask your self what you want (not what parts but what you want the car to actually do) then see how much it will cost you.
