Engine rebuild....

  1. #1
Hey guys, before i start ive lost intrest in gettin a VTS engine so i dont want any comments saying "just get a VTS lump" etc etc

Right, i have a blacktop VTR engine at the moment and tbh its pokey enugh for me and i enjoy the power it gives!

Sadly i have went ovetr the 100k mark recently, and altho it has NEVER broke down on me since i got it (had 92k on when bought) im now starting to worry that it might!

I was thinking about gettin the engine stripped and rebuilt recently, as i have been led to believe this basically turns the engine back to brand new...

    ...Correct or incorrect??

Just thinking like new seals, new parts to replace worn parts etc etc.

Has anyone ever had this done, and any idea on cost at all?

Any knowledge on the subject would be great

its really not worth the money just keep giving it a good service. to be honest you shouldnt get any problem just because its now on 100k just respect the engine and car

Yea i guess so, its just a thought for the future really, as the car will basically be kept till it cant go anymore and the the parts sold from it, its not going to have another owner but myself, so just trying to think of ways to keep it going!

Ive been quoted approx 350 for a major service including new cambelt etc etc, seems canny expensive imo!!

thats fair enough some with my vtr im not going to sell it just run it into the ground and bring it back to life over and over again. 350 does seem abit steep but a cambelt change is a usual money maker for the garages

why dont you service it yourself, the bits will only be about £45-£50
then the timing belt shouldnt be more than £150 to get done.

has the head gasket ever been done?

this is what i did when i had my new engine fitted

    new timing belt
    new altenator belt
    new clutch
    rocker cover seal
    head gasket
    new oil
    new anti-freeze
    new oil filter
    new spark plugs
    new crank shaft seal
    new driveshaft seals
    new x-sport gear linkages
    re-do tappets

Hey mate, i would not have a clue how to do a service, non at all, i meen i could change the oil i guess but thats about it! (god i sound like a woman!)

And yes it has had the head gasket done, got the receipt from the lad i bought it off and has apparently been done at 77,000 miles.

Dont get me rong the car runs perfectly, apart fromt he odd time, when you put your toe down it seems to go then have a spluter for he time it takes to blink your eyes then goes again, bar that its never EVER let me down!

Just dotn want it to start doing so, my main worries is im the 10th yes the 10th!!! keeper of the vehicle, so have no idea how its been treat tbh!
