steering problems

Hey people, my friend has a saxo vts on a r plate, and we have some bad problems!! lol

The first major problem is a excessice knocking/banging from the steering rack! i have traced it to rack, the doudle ball joint which joins the two toe arm to the rack, now here the good bit, the doudle end ball joint is loose in the securing arm/bracket and the nut will just spins, with the bolt, and unable to tighten. there is very little access to the bottom of the bolt as the rack is very close to the fire wall of the vehicle! Now i have heard Citroen had a vehicle recall for i think this problem?? has anybody heard of this??? Is it still a active as i know recalls, will be closed after a time???

so i am going to remove the rack from the fire wall to gain acess to inspect the damage and fix this problem for him!! so whts it like to get off, i think i will only drop it off the fire wall, that should be ok, i look forward to your input?? thank you people!

It's a fuckin BASTARD, well, thats an exaggeration but it's not nice. The inlet maniofld is awkward to get off as the plenum has 2 allen key bolts going up into it at the back, If you're taking the rack completely out of the car, its a pain in the arse to get it out of the hole in the inner wing.
Personally, I'd of said your problem is the nut on the strut holding the damper in isn't tight enough.
