Wide arches + side skirts

  1. #1
hi, i'm a total amateur with body kits and modifying cars. I have a basic 1.1 Desire in black and I want to give it the sort of VTR look if possible. I've seen wide arch and side skirt kits but I don't know anything about them. I've been told that they will fit straight onto my 1.1 desire without having to mess around adjusting the body parts. Can anyone confirm this?

Also there's the issue of getting them painted, how much would I be looking at and can anyone help me find a garage that maybe specializes in body kits in my area? I live in North West London, near Wembley. I know it might be alot to ask, i'm just pushing my luck

    thanks in advance

You can fit the vtr/s body kit it invloves a lot of work I believe there is some cutting of body panels/holes to drill if I was in your situation i`d get the yellow pages out & get a few quotes(bodyshops)

For the cost of buying the kit, having it sprayed and then fitting it, wouldn't you be better off selling the 1.1 and buying a westcoast/ furio/ vtr/ vts?

The furio and westcoasts are only 1.4 so your insurance shouldn't be too much higher.

ah, thanks for the replies. I got quoted on my 1.1 and the insurance in the area I live was 3,800 lol, so I didn't even bother getting a quote for 1.4 or 1.6, I'll try get a quote on one now..I suppose I should have done this BEFORE I bought the car lol. Will it really cost that much just for the wide arch kit?

    Thanks again

I've been quoted 4327.00 which is like 500 quid more for 300 more CC...

    northwest london, Stonebridge

I'm using confused.com to find me the best quote, are there any cheaper ones out there?

My advice would be to leave the kit build up NCD save some cash then buy a furio,vtr/s.

Well I've just convinced my dad to sell the car lol, so we're going to go for the Westcoast I guess. Thanks for replies, it's a shame I can't do up the 1.1 without spending a fortune.

Posts like this piss me off. What are basing this statement on? Just because confused.com didnt work for you maybe it will work for him?

My past 2 cars have been insured via using confused.com and so too did my girlfriends VTR.

She is a first time driver @ age of 17 and has a VTR. She pays £1000 fully comp and found this through confused.com. The next closest match was about £500 more.

Funny thing was she run the quote with the company and it worked out £12 more expensive, unsure why she is got it £12 cheaper through confused.com but she did.

Sorry for hi-jack, but try places like confused.com and the best quote you get on there try it without using the engine.

Also try brentacre. they are VERY cheap if you plan to mod your car.

    Hope this helps

ill try elephant .com.. funnily enough on moneysupermarket.com which is similiar to confused.com, they charged me an extra grand when I put my dad on. He's like 50 odd with like 20 odd years no claims and all that, but he has a speeding conviction in the last 5 years. this insurance stuff is sure alot of bollocks lol

Danny suprisingly the cheapest quote I've had so far is from moneysupermarket.com, they quoted me 3 grand, 3rd party

I've got family friends that live in like Cambridgeshire on their own little housing estate/village thing I dunno what they call it. I'm probably going to claim to live there, that way I wont be paying like double my car's worth for insurance. thanks though

two things. 1. dont use confused they arent that good. 2. keep the flat arch. dont get a body kit or anything, if u slam it u can make it look nice. if insurace is that much for u stick with the desire. check out this flat arch http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=112917 nicest on here imo. ur choice tho
