Refurbing/Spraying Alloys...

  1. #1
    Hey guys

Well i have a 2 week break from work at the end of july and im thinking of spending the most of it gettin my carhow i want it, when i get it back that is, as at the min it looks like this!!!!

Anyhow, i currently have VTS rims on which at some point have been painted white, but it has chipped off canny bad round where the bolts go and jst have dirty marks all over them which dont see to want to come off!

Paint chips can bee seen in this pic

Only one is curbed, VERY BADLY where i hit diesel and the alloy took the full brunt of the kerb, so this one will have to be sent of to be repaird, apart from this the others are not kurbed at all.

    Kurbd wheel

I have read the guide on how to spray your alloys etc so am aware of all the sanding etc that need to be done.

But im just wondering if i need to do mine any differently with them already being painted and not knowing HOW they wer painted, like do i need to sand more, how will i no once ive went thru the CLEAR COTE.....??

Im wanting to give this a go but im VERY worried ill mess it up, would i just be better of savin up sum pennys and gettin them done profesionaly one wheel after another till they are done (i dont have 4 spare wheels!)

Surely 2 weeks would be enugh if i did decide to do them myself......

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks guys

    nitromorse

strips all the paint off, then you have a fresh surface to work with

just sand it, and take time with the primer, make sure its spot on mate

So would you advise using that stuff, or paint striper, then starting with the sanding etc etc??

    nitromorse is paint stripper

aye use that get all old paint off

you could just sand back the old paint, but im lazy so i would use nitro much easier

i would just sand the old paint back mate, i did two sanding and tryed one with paint stripper, never again takes ages to get rid of all the paint thats been stripped of and then doesnt leave as smooth finish as the sanding i didnt think.just sand back then when it looks like a matt finish you know you have gone through the clear coat then just gradually use finer grades of paper until wet and dry to get super smooth
