Upgrading the 1.1 (2002 model)

  1. #1
Later this week I will be swapping in my BMW for a black 1.1 desire on an 02 plate. Although this is a step down in terms of value, I am determined to make the best of it. I had my 325 for 5 and a bit years, I have had the enjoyment of it for all that time, and the way it held it's value meant I could pay Cash for the Saxo and an extension on the house. Besides, I love Saxos!

I would like to get some wheels/tyres, either from here or an ebayer with good feedback. I would like some recommendations for wheels that will be legal, I can fit myself and without having to modify the arches or any part of the car.

I would also like to consider a roof spoiler and lexus/Altezza style rear lights (or something else) if anyone has recommendations.

I look foward both to your replies and being a Saxo owner!

Personally wouldn't go for the lexus style rear lights, not really that keen on them, but up to you at the end of the day. Smoked jewels are rather nice!

As for the spoiler either a mk1 or mk2 saxo spoiler would look smart, without looking too over the top.

I would say if you want to make it look good, get it lowered about 4/50mm, itll handle better too.

I'd be quite happy to get it lowered, but more because I want to than have to if you follow me.

What the tallest and widest wheels/tyres is could fit mod-free?

Thank you for the advice on the other stuff. I like the smoked lights looks so for sure I will look into that. Anywhere online sell em?

You can pick up some VTR wheels which are 14" pretty cheap, or some 15" VTS wheels off here or from a scrappy, they would be a good addition. Smoked jewels on the rear, and maybe smoke the front Lights and Fogs. Lower about 40mm all around.

I Think VTR wheels are, 185,55,14 and VTS wheels are 195,50,15.

    Thanks Scattle.

And both would fit with needing to mod the car of be in fear of rubbing the arches, or is it just not that simple?

I had VTR wheels on my Flat Arch(sx model) and didn't rub unless I had a car load of people in the back. You won't need arch work I don't think if you fit them, but if you have a search, under the Black bump strips on the car on the rear arch there is a peice of metal that attaches to the Bumper if I remeber rightly that can be bent/hammered out of the way, as the wheels may catch on that. As said just do a search there are plenty of Threads about it.

    VTS wheels run 195/45/15 tyres!

You could always swop the seats for ones from a Vt*/106 Gti!

The main problem i had when looking for saxo alloys was finding ones that were a direct fit and didn't need spacers. i ended up going for OZ superturismos which were a direct fit. VTR/S wheels would be a direct fit also, and picked up pretty cheap. Wolfrace katanas are a direct fit too but are quite common but cheap.

Also, you wont get any rubbing unless your car is slammed or you are using 17" or 16" wheels.
