vts with vtr gearbox

  1. #1
i've got a vts transplant which is supposed to be standard (so pug performance tell me) it revs to nearly 8000 n its noticealbly faster than a vts a took for a test drive a ma lightly tuned 106 gti i raced the other week, does anyone kon if the gearbox is making this much difference or has it been modded?

gear ratios are different on a vtr 2 vts, so if u drop a vts engine into a vtr with vtr gearbox it will be faster than a vts
  3. #3
aye mate a kno the ratios are differnt but its sat @ 133 on the clock in 4th before it redlines a didnt think it would make that much of a differnce thats all

    blimey , thats quick !
wouldnt be to do with the VTR box, the revving.
Prob had the rev limit increased.

a vtr box will slow the acceleration down but the top end will be higher and visa versa. it prob feels faster cus it'll go up to like 80 in 2nd gear but side by side the vts boxed engine would be quicker

altho u wouldnt also need to change gear as often with a vtr box in so that may be a helpin factor too

yeah till 3rd gear then it cant keep up

now that doesnt really doesnt make sense. if your basically saying the same engine with the different gearboxes. the vtr gearbox will be slower accelerating no matter wat. unless its modded? or ones knackered

like i was saying it doesnt make sense all i have done to the engine is put a full de-cat magnex system n a enclosed green induction kit on apart from that its supposed to be standard

apparently the vts/gti engines are very restricted as standard so really open up and react well with breathing mods. could be y? plus french engines are strange, u get good (fast) ones and bad (slow) ones
  11. #11
sweet cheers amte thats cleared a few things up i just didnt think it would react aswell as it did to only fittin an induction kit n exhaust
  12. #12
133 in 4th!!!! must of had something done to it!!! mines revs out at 7200 ish! i have full system, decat, piperx viper and sometimes it can be really quick but other times standard vtr's can keep up.!

wow! how much was it for the conversion from pug performance? i was thinking of taking my car to them when i have the money. it sounds gd to me!
  14. #14
133 in 4th is the vtr box
  15. #15
no it isnt! i have a vtr box on my vts engine and it wont do 133 in 4th!!!!!!

what you get in 4th then dan?
  17. #17
its physically impossible for it to hit 133mph in 4th on a vtr box UNLESS the rev limiter has been raised (to 7885 exactly (assuming 195/45 15 tyres))

On 195/ 45 15 tyres a vts engine with vtr gearbox with limiter of 7250 will hit 122.3mph
  18. #18
yeah thats what mine revs to roughly
  19. #19
scott? i can hit 120 in with my vts box. rollin road proved too? hence y i thought the vtr box should and would be longer
  20. #20
should hit 114 in 4th on 195/45 15's limiter of 7250. 4th isnt that much longer, 5th is though
  21. #21
im not sure what i get? i know its over 110mph tho i do have 16's on there too, not sure if that will make much difference?

sounds like it has a pugsport ECU on it if its reving to approx 8k (pugsport goes to 7800 and has been mapped for pugsport cams and other items) 130 in 4th would be a indicated on the speedo but you wouldnt really be doing that. My VTS with VTR box hits 130 on the clock in 4th on the limiter but it isnt really doing that.
