Dump Valve Question

  1. #1
Ok so i just bought a Renault Twingo (gay name i know) GT Turbo....First question is.....can i fit a dump valve to it?

If so where would i get one from?

Also does a dump valve do anything whatsoever than just make the noise?

    Cheers

if its a turbo i dont see why not. yes it does have a purpose of dumping the air i think from the turbo allowing it to get more quickly, you can get quiet ones but go for the loudest a blitz or something

if its a MAP setup then yes, if its a AMM setup then as long as the standard recirc valve plubs back in before the AMM and not after the AMM then u can fit one

as for dump valves they do 2 things, remove the built up boost pressure dumping it to atmosphere quicker then the recirc valve and secondly because of this rather then the recirc'd air being reused (hotter air as been through turbo) the turbo will draw new colder air in resulting in better performance

Cheers mate...are they fairly easy to fit assuming you have a bit of engine knowledge etc?

How would i know if its MAP or AMM?

get a picture of the engine bay up i should be able to tell ya by looking at it, and yes easy to fit, mounth the dump valve as cloe to the throttle body as u can and then tap the vacume line off a vac line on the inlet manifold

its hard to see much in them pics as its all obscured with pipes and that, from what i can see there isnt a AMM but cant realy tell if its hidden away or not, would be easyer to ask on a renault twingo forum. I can see your standard recirculation valve, you would need to remove it and block the outlet pipe and fit the dump valve on the other pipe in its place

recirc valve is the big roundthing in this pic with a vacume pipe comming out the top:

Come on guys we all know that dump valves do not help performance all it does is reduce the turbo lag, I've seen too many tests where the dump valve actually doesn't make the slightest bit of difference, except for a noise!!!
  11. #11
but what a noise it just helps the turbo spool faster o not ness more power just fast acc which is good alone and on an engien of 1.2 u would have ott turbo lag

stick a cone filter on and listen to the turbo chatter. Dump valves dont sound good and do nothing for performance and can cause problems when they start to stick and leak. . Also the turbo on a twingo will be really small so wont suffer any lag and will be at full boost at 2g of revs.
    hope this helps

This guy on twingo oc has done it! Its an Audi TT 225 blow off valve iirc. He says its good lol.

Get yourself on www.twingooc.com i wrote a how to guide on fitting one mate took me 10 mins to fit mine, stayed on for less then 10 days as-well i wouldnt advise getitng one tbh you rev to about 2-3k revs and it tries to dump and you loose power
