Engine Managment, Running funny... CAT?.. Also oil leak...

    As above really..

When driving along the past week or so, My engine Managment light has been on.

Sometimes its off until the car is hot, Or until its driven hard, then it comes back on.

If i Rev limit the car sometimes, it also likes to start revving itself - When sat idling the car can sit between 2 and 3k Rpm - Switch it off and back on and its no problem again...

Its really strange, I was thinking Possibly Cat, But surely that wouldn't effect the ECU as its the earlier engine with the sensor before the cat?

I Drove the car easy 20 miles to work today and the light was still on, However driving easy with the odd overtake on the way home, the light hasn't come on, however it has a new tank of fuel since this morning.

Another problem is a Potential Oil leak!
The car Drips occasionally when parked, and leaves big Drips when i pull away, Though its not all the time, and there's no Visible signs of Drippage - Any common areas to be aware of?

This is all on an Early Silvertop 1.6 8v Engine.

    Cheers

could be idle control valve or afm.

Update - Drove it all day and tonight sensibly - No light.

On the way home just now i got stuck behind some Tank things...

I got a good run up, Dropped into second and Planted my foot to the floor, and by the time i was in 3rd gear, the engine managment light was on - Seems to be more when driven hard or when the revs are risen...

    Another update..

When cold, The car smells of Petrol, and also when I drive off, If i accelerate lightly the car is ok, but when i put my foot down to get a reasonable (Not particularly fast) Pull away or pickup, It bogs as if its going to die..

My thoughts are still on Cat / Llambda Sensor..
    Any others?

wont be the cat unless its blocked up but even so i doubt it. Lambda sensor is a possibility. Also the MAP sensor and TPS sensors can cause it. The TPS is a good one for causing flatspots!

Get it a pluged into a computer to get the fault codes read.
