Gearbox and/or clutch problem?

   I've just bought a mk1 VTR and am having no end of problems with it.
   
   The clutch is as stiff as you like and now i'm having problems getting it in 1st and 2nd. I just went to get some petrol and it is making and whiney kind of noise. I tried to put it into 2nd as I went round a corner and it wouldn't let me. I had to really fight with it in 3rd to keep it moving.

   sounds like ur clutch is knackered to me mate i'd take it to ur local garage for a new clutch, not sure on price as it seems to vary so much around the country, i got a mk2 vts and cost me £180for supplying and fittin.
