difference between what? a vts and a gti engine. no difference really apart from the pug badges.
  3. #3
i would go for a vts engine as there will be more similarities so it would be easier to fit!

I've heard alot of people saying that the VTS responds better to certain mods compared to what the Gti engine does.

no difference what so ever.any engine good enough.check local scrap dealer

My point is that if the engines are the same y does 1 respond better to mods than the other!? not trying to be orkward at all just want to know the lil differences...

If i go for VTS or GTI how much can i expect to pay... any ideas ppl.... recomend any companys... reconditiond if possible...

i paid £500 for mine which came with everything i need to do the conversion.

make sure you get one from a mk2 saxo though matey as it will make the conversion easier.

    Mi16 engine????

SAXO VTS - 106 GTI engine exactly the same, no difference WHATSOEVER apart from as mentioned the badge.

They even share the same part nos at pug/cit

MI16 is a XU engine and wouldnt fit directly, although can be fitted, but needs new driveshafts (custom made) engine mounts (all 3 custom made) some bulkhead cutting and a load of other stuff so would cost meaga £££ where a mildly tuned VTS would eat the engine alive anyways.

Anyone who says that a pug 106 engine or saxo vts engine perform better than one another are talking bollox and you can quote me on that

Mi-16.... nice thought!! ray can u imagine that!! lots of go-go!!

ok i think ill look for a GTI or VTS which ever is better for value & wear & tear etc...

any mods recomended while the block is out & ready to go in....??????

cams would be a good place to start also if you wanting head work done.

when you put the engine in change other things like spark plugs and oil filter etc.

i'd also change the clutch, water pump, timing belt and oil pump just as a matter of course while the engine is out and to save you doing it in the future.

For prices mate your looking for about £250 just for the engine. Then £100 for gearbox as a VTR box is crap on a VTS engine. Then loom and ECU will be about £100. Search ebay etc to get a rough guide. im currently breaking my VTS if that helps
