Whats the best way to get as much Torque out of your VTR/S as possiable?
  2. #2
Forced induction - turbo or supercharger!
  3. #3
what you mean by Forced induction??
  4. #4
sorry read that wrong doesnt matter

supercharger is what i have been advised, but n/a tuning will never produced much extra torque
  7. #7
N/A power is always readily available where as forced induction you have to wait until you are on boost to get the POOOOWWWERR

    Get a V8...

viper stripes and tinted windows give u alot more torque

unless you have a supercharger or variable vane turbo.. a well designed setup will have minimal lag

    eerrrmm,how does a super/c have lag?
also anti lag systems now for turbo's.
  17. #17
Supercharger is probably your best bet if you want torque in boatloads. Turbo would be the only other option really but you could end up with slight lag.

I thought anti lag wasnt allowed for road use now? Or is that just the mental AL systems?

you can get systems that are 'on a switch' anti lag, it is abit extreme for road use, also you will be changing your turbos more than your socks!

  19. #19
    mine has no lag

can ya turbo a westcoast cos i jus want tht dump valve sound but from an actual turbo!!
  21. #21
dont forget people, its not cheap for big power boost but does have big rewards.
a mild'ish cam will improve torque.using a short ratio box will help you accelerate better thus usng torque more efficiently.

    you an turbo anything realli.

    you want to go through all the agro of;
    getting a turbo
    pipes
    intercooler
    pistons
    manifold/zorst
    standalone management/mapping

just so you can here a dump valve, pmsfl.

just get an elecy one wire it up and you can make the noise without the engine running lol.

you have to have around 5 grand spare to do a descent job.
    not cheap or easy.

everything for a turbo, pipers, intercooler etc but you need brackets/drive belt.

turbo you need pipe etc but you need down pipes instead of bracket and belts.

turbo could cost a little more.

What box would have the shortest ratio to increase torque on a vtr? Without killing it every few thousand miles

s1 rallye box. it has a sports gear cluster and is strong enough for any model in the range.
  32. #32
what sort of money are you looking at to pick one up second hand?

depends on condition tbh. and they are quite rare. i paid £100 for mine but then it was fully rebuilt so about £300 for me.
  34. #34
and would a series 1 box be a straight swop onto a mk 2 sax? gota mate uws sellin his series 1 so might see if he will swop boxes before he flogs it
  35. #35
it should do, might need to change s peedo drive over.

it will wreck the rallye though if you put a vtr box on it.

    speedo drive over ???

too hard to describe over forum, if you were to have a box in front of you with a haynes, it wouldnt take more than 5 minute i would of thought.
  40. #40
does it involve taking the box apart or is it a tighten something with a spanner job? and how would you know if it needed doing?
  41. #41
if you intend on changing a box you should be more than capable of chainging one.

you can tell because if your vtr has a black one then the rallye box will need a black one, i think there are only white and black so cant go far wrong
  42. #42
Putting an S1 Rallye box in a stock VTR would be a very bad mistake. IIRC, in 5th gear, you're knocking on 4000rpm at around 70mph. Think about where the power band ends on a VTR... 16 valves get away with it, as they like to rev, but it would kill a VTR for top end.

You may find your speedo is a little out, as I'm fairly sure you'd be doing about 65mph TOPS at that RPM.

Having never driven a VTR, do you find it runs out of puff not long after? As I'm running wilder cams, I can rev to 7800 and still produce good power, so the box works well for me. But I can't see it working quite so well in a VTR...

EDIT: Maybe your speedo isn't out actually. Are you running rather large rims?
  45. #45
A Turbo will give more torque than an SC with similar BHP outputs. But it will also kill you gearbox quicker....
