Lowering my 1.1 (Yes, I'm a newbie)

   Hello everyone!
   
   Right, I'm new to the forum and to cars all together as I've only just turned 17. I have a 1.124 desire, 2001 model, and really want to lower it cheaply. Am I right in thinking that all I need to do is buy a set of springs (e.g 45mm lower) and fit them? These for example: http://cn.potn.com/p1253206.htm?
   
   This may be in the wrong section, and has probably been posted a million times before but if someone could reply with a bit of avice or a link to a helpful topic I would be really greatful.

   theoretically yes thats all you need to buy to lower your car, if you fit them and lower the torsion bar yourself, however its still advised to by new shortened shocks aswell to go with the new springs as standards will wear out quicker and may get bouncy. Some makes like Eibach sportline lowering springs are said to work well with standard shocks, which is probably ewhat im going for as im skint!

   So I buy the springs.... put them on and lower the torsion bar? How come most of the lowering spring kits only come with 2 springs? Is there a guide anywhere to doing this?
   
   Would much prefer to do things myself then paying for a garage to do it for me.

   two springs, one for each side of the front of the car
   you dont need any for the rear as its just the torsion bar that gets lowered
   tbh mate i would only do this if you know what youre doing
   just take it to a garage imo, you can get it lowered prfessionally including all the parts for about 150
   not that much if you ask me

   sorry mate dont really want to give a link cos im not 100% sure on what they are but i no people mention eibach 45-50mm sportline (or speedline cant remember) lowring springs - can google it?

   i have 45m on front with P.Is and there fine with standard shock quite hard though and about 60mm on back but need uprated shocks on rear as alloys keep rubbing

   PI's are well known for being bouncy, hense the low price. all about personell opinion, if you dont mind an uncomfortable ride to make you car look nicer for cheap then up to you. all about what you want, standard shocks are ok with anything below 40-50, don't last forever tho

   Ok cheers for all the replies. Going to spend a lot more time researching the correct springs etc. Got some mates at a local garage so will probs speak to them about doing it for me/giving me some help.
   
   Are there any online guides to doing it? Not so much replacing the springs I'm worried about, but lowering the torsion bar I'm a bit lost with.

    I was looking at doing it myslef but after reading a guide on here (can't remeber who did one ...) i think its safer taking it to mechanic to do it, unless you know what your doing or got balls!!!

    i was pretty intimidated by torsion bars
    but tbh its not that hard
    
    just a pain to get the eccentric washers in and out
    and took a while to get the bars themself out too
    
    but all then needed was a bi of brute force (not the washers) and out they popped

    Them guides are pretty good, cheers. Looks slightly more complicated than expected though. Gonna have a chat with a garage and see what sorta price they will do it for.
