Would the gearing be really shit? Anyone had this set-up before? Only asking because im in need of a new VTS box but have a VTR box spare i could use. Cheers
VTR box on VTS

-
#2yes... shit plan.
-
#3So you've experienced a vtr box on a vts before have you?
-
#4would feel sluggish with an R box compared to an S but it would be more economical on fuel. or you could get a 1.1/1.4 box on there
-
#5Just money issues at the moment considering VTS boxes are $150+ and not many available
Anybody have any for sale? -
#6you ratios and power delivery will be all wrong. dont do it
-
#8not sure myself but I have heard from many people on here say they are weaker and wear out quicker than the S gearbox. but they are much cheaper and more readily available. loads of people have put a 1.1 box on a VTS though.
-
#9the boxes are all the same build quality, so a lower model box wont brake any quicker than a vts box.
vtr box will make it slower as will a 1.4 box because of the long ass ratios, u could use it to get the car on the road and be slower until u get the funds or wait till u find an S box. -
#10ive heard the lower spec boxes have a smaller diff, not sure how true it is though.
-
#11lower non sport boxes are weaker.
Diff is smaller, which is the weakest point on MA boxes really. -
#12u will also now the differnce on top end shud b quicker up he revs tho on a r box
-
#14in a vtr box u hit 60mph in 3rd gear....
in the vts box u dont need to change from 2nd... cos it reaches 62 in 2nd..
look for a vts box mate.. if not get the 1.3 rallye box... but dont jus drop a vtr box on it, or a 1.1/1/4 cos the little hamsters turning the wheels will diiiie!!! -
#15i have just had a vtr box put in today as the vts box went! seems great to me not alot of differance if ne thing its better higher up the revs in all gears! tbh a dnt think there are many VTS's on the road with the original vts box in lol they go so oftern!
-
#16i have also heard of people putting 1.5 diesel box's in vts's for lowere end acceleration! dunno what the truth is in this! a dunno about this but will the car not accelerat the same just do more or less speeds in each gear depending on the gearbox u put in?
-
#171.5 box is same as vtr.
it WILL NOT improve acceleration as the gearing is all wrong.
Daveyboy - also where did you get you're information?? the vtr box effectively is a taller box so will pull greater speeds in each gear not less. -
#18will it decrease acceleration?, yer i totally agree,i feel as though it pulls greater speeds in each gear!
-
#19it will make the car slower to a set speed compaired to the box with better final drive.
Will also run higher speeds compaired to same rpm with a different box. -
#20You will have to let us know what the top end now is (when you get to go on a track of course!)
-
#21Took the gearbox out the VTR last night only took me 2 hours HOPEFULLY it will be in tonight just got to wait for my dad to get home to line the clutch up (Havn't done a clutch before)
Then atleast the car is running!
Also 20CE37 - Found out it wasn't a vts box after all, it was a 1.1 box. Not happy! -
#221.1 ghey!!! at least you know though now.
-
#23Yeh very ghey! i think rowan said pug1off did the conversion so they obviously put it in!
Will have to source a vts box or similar soon when i have the money so if anyones selling any in the future give me a shout, cheers! -
#24Ryan is right, a vtr box on a vts makes the gearing really really long, really slow! my mates did a vts conversion and used the old vtr box whiles he was waiting to get a vts box, i drove it and it was really slow, and it did 72mph in second gear lol! just wait around for a decent vts box, loads of breakers have them, i payed 200 quid for a vts box that came with 6 months warranty and came out of a vts with 44,000 miles. that was on my vtr tho, made the accellration so much better, but lost 10mph top end, dont care tho cause its too riskly doing anything over 90mph theses days and plus i've got a vts now!
-
#25ive got a vtr box in my vts at the moment only because i was assured it was a vts box the acceleration is very noticable alot slower through the gears and the top end is more really feals sluggish with it in and i dont like !!
-
#26so...will a 1.3 rallye box be better or the same as a vts box? cheers
-
#27mate had a vtr box in his 106gti said he got some mental speeds in the lower gears!
-
#28the vtr box is longer, so will go faster in each gear, so will go faster in 2nd than a vts box will in 2ndQuote:in a vtr box u hit 60mph in 3rd gear....
in the vts box u dont need to change from 2nd... cos it reaches 62 in 2nd..
look for a vts box mate.. if not get the 1.3 rallye box... but dont jus drop a vtr box on it, or a 1.1/1/4 cos the little hamsters turning the wheels will diiiie!!! -
#29think i had a vtr box on mine
was chatting to jp about this the other week
i could do 120mph in 4th at about 7500rpm
and on the dyno doing 5th gear runs it was hitting 145 every run
but even cammed compared to other vts it just didnt pull away like i thought it would
hopefully solving this problem with a s1 ralley box lol -
#30s1 FTW
