    hey folks.

iv got a 51 plate vtr.

it is time to do my timing belt so i was thinking while im at it is it worth puting a cam in?

    what type (285???)

would i need adjustable pully to solve idling problem?

    how much?

is it worth all the hastle for the power??

    cheers folks.

    rep will be given

it cost me probably just under 800 quid and it pulled 122bhp on the rr adnthat was without a decat and an open induction kit.

much cheaper to just get a vts engine in my opinion, will hit about the same bhp as a cammed vtr lump

It may have cost just under £800 but that was with buying about £1000 worth of parts off of me for £200.

I thought you was going to let me know how you got on?

I dont suppose you know anything about the plant pots?!

And you're not far off spending what some places would charge to turbo a vtr.

same bhp but 15 kg lighter .

i would put a vts in but its hard to get a hold of a cheap 3 plug ecu 1.

    insurance purposes aswell.

i know how to put cams in ect but when it comes round to unlocking ecu's . it will get quite exspensive,

could i not use the standard ecu if i was going to put cam in???

15kg isnt too much, its a small child and the vts 'box would probably make up that difference.

I heard the 3 plugs dont respond well to mapping, I was looking at getting an Emerald.

Do it. You know you want too

    vts lump

I'd say going with a VTS is a better option if your looking to tune it more as realisticly, it's a way more powerful engine with way higher potential. Obviously price and insurance needs taking into consideration..

vtrs on cams go well... my mate had a vtr engine cammed, with bigger valves. fookin amazin, used to beat gtis.
but mate, if u wanna mod it, vts it! more reliable if done correctly. and either way ur gona wanna tell insurance arent u?
i know so many people who would rather have a vts, and if u aint drove or been in one, then go ask someone!

well chaps. iv decided that im going to do what ever comes to me first ie cheap engine / cam.

iv looked at what i need for the cam. ( lifters tappets mk1 springs ) . it would be much eisier to put a vts in.

drop me a pm if any 1 noes someone who has a vts/gti breaking.

    cheers fellas

3cott said to fit cams to the S lump after the conversion and a VTS conversion is about £1500 fitted, then buying the parts to cam is another £1k, then when you have bought manifold, exhaust and filter it is around £3k.

    Turbo conversion money.

oh i thought you meant just to cam a vtr.
  18. #18
just buy a vts. insurance will be same as a cammed vtr wont it. cheaper than engine swap anyway with no hassle

agreed with whats been said above, i was in the same predicament, didnt know weather to go for cam on my r or vts conversion..

Thought about it and decided to go with the conversion, as the vts engine is more powerful and by the time you have mani, and exhaust system your laughing. Am now tempted to cam my vts engine, but thats in the future,

imo get the s conversion then cam that - then you will be laughing.
