Track Tyres What Pressure?

  1. #1
    on a vts 15"

normally have 32 all around, but told at trax last year put higher than reccommended, then read someone sayin they would lower pressure (for track and not 1/4 mile before anyone says)

    whats best?

i was going to slightly over inflate
  2. #2
28 i was reading on rallye as the pressures go up when tyres get hotter.

not sure on the pressure but its true that the pressure will go up as the tyre gets hotter so it would make sense to under-inflate so that the tyre is at optimum pressure when warm.

got 28 in mine all round
  5. #5
ah well then i will do that then

    What tyres?

Different for a few but toyo's and yoko's are better on certain psi.
Stick to 28 all round to be sure.
  11. #11
    anyone else to add 28?!?!?
  12. #12
i would have to say 28 matt

    best thing to do

Aye but R888's run different psi front and rear.
  16. #16
yep so presure would go up more on the front as the tyre gets hotter
  17. #17
Leez rite, I wudz pursunallee reccumend 28 pee ess eye MAttuew...
  18. #18
    I'd rock 30.
tiny bit under normal road driving.

no idea what make tyres they are actually

Huge difference in grip with Toyo's over quite a few others....

Bit dodgy in some wet conditions and suicidal around standing water like but still awesome.
  22. #22
yeah stil may get some if it rains i wouldnt go on track with them, but im going to be a bit crazy and get four at the same time, not sure what you think about that
  23. #23
    yep buy them mate

Exactly, had to take mine down to 28 for the ring from 30, and i was still 4 wheel drifting at the end of the lap - just added to the fun though, last corner at 100mph 4 wheel drifting

    Haha

28 all round for me, as front is meant ot be higher then the rear so the front will go above the rear after driving, will be checking mine after first session see what the crack is.
  26. #26
I would run the rear slightly higher to reduce understeer. Try starting on 28 front and 30 rear.

personally if i run under 30 i get very bad scrubbing on the tread blocks etc. ie all the corners chamfered off. I tend to run them around 35psi all round and i get much more even scrubbing.

However, bear in mind i need maximum grip from cold with very little chance for them to warm up before the finish line.

Just have a play around with them and see what works best for you and the tyres you have fitted. Bear in mind that the grippier the tyre, the hotter and higher pressure it will get to.
  28. #28
    its twenty min sessions

ive had fronts 34 at trax and rears 30 and seemed fine

they are gona warm up then cool down for 40 mins then back up, take it pressure will drop during those times?
  29. #29
have you got a foot pump to take yates? if not i have one and a digital tyre pressure gauge.
  30. #30
i'd start with your tried and tested 34 (bear in mind that thetyres need to be cold when you take the pressure!). If it seems a bit light on the handling or the back end is getting a bit nervous and your losing confidence in the grip, drop them down a few psi. Harder tyres will grip more and flex less but they will also break away quciker and with less feedback when they do finally let go.

Softer tyres with less pressure will squeal and screach more, understeer more and will wear more on the edges but you have lots more warning before they let go.
  31. #31
nah i dont have foot pump steve, but if you have stuff then thats good

think i will just go for 33 and 30 rears, never had problems at trax, altho i can have this as a tester and experiment for future track days
  32. #32
yoko prada 2 at rockingham were sqealing like a bitch after 20 mins an scrubbed the edge off abit on front drivers side
  33. #33
i ran standard pressures at fcs no squeel under steer or anything was spot on.....

thats 2.5bar front 2.2 rear what ever that = think its 32 rear 35 front.
  34. #34
maybe i was driving like a cock ha ha
  35. #35
standard vts isnt it 32 in front and 30 rear?

dont know if i should take cyclones or vts wheels with us, just incase track tyres are fooked, vts is better but lol 2 refurbed 2 sanded lol
  36. #36
On donnington i had mine set to road rate for my first session and lowered them progressively. Ended up with 26 being the best.

Above and the back end was quite twitchy.
  37. #37
yates, it depends on you suspension setup/tyres/driving style..

like nick said above, you can run slightly more in the rear to aid turn in and reduce understeer. if the car is lighter than standard then you dont need to put as much in..
if its hot teh tyre temperatures will rise more quickly and will get too hot. if you are an agressive driver then this will also heat up the tyres quicker so i would run less psi..
id do a bit of trial and error tbh.. go out with around 28ish depending on tyre and go from there, if the tyre loses grip then let a couple of psi out but if you feel the tyre "rolling" the put a bit back in.

with r888 i normally run 28 front and 32 rear.
