Ecu problems!!! Help!!

   hello people, got abit of a funny problem. Car runs fine, then dont know for what reason but the engine management light turns on and the car loses all power and cuts out. Now i u go to start it, it will turn over but not actually start.
   Now if i disconnect the ecu for about 5 mins reconnect it back the car will start first time! Now since i have had this problem the car is also misfiring.
   Any ideas on what this problem could be? Or what i cud do to try & resolve it.
   
   Any help would be apreciated. Thank u

   Get it hooked u to a diagnostics machine will save you money in the long run.

   oh forgot to mention, the problem all started when i hit a big bumpy grid in the road.

   i have tried to huk up the ecu to a diagnostics machine previouly, and because my ecu is unlocked u cant access the engine management option
