Driving at high rev's

Does driving at high rev's, say change up at 5500 in first, second and sometimes third and changing down at about 2500, ruin your car only for short periods of time? Sorry if its a noob question.

going to say this before you get 30 post saying why change at 5500, power band is 5200
  3. #3
Oh right i was told it was 5500 my mistake.

In this day and age you should be changing at no more than 3k! Think of your childrens future.

I wouldnt regularly change gears close to the limiter all the while. Doubt its seriously
    damaging but cant be ideal?

    lmao at power band

True altho my car doesnt really guzzle to much fuel, I hardly do it, only when i fancy letting the saxo put a big smile on my face ! just dont want it to go bang on me.

engines are designed to rev, you more likey to break it driving round like a gran.

of course there is no point in ragging the shit out of it all the time, but i use mine as a weekend toy, track car, so when i do use it i use it hard, shifting at 7000+ alot of the time.

all these dithering old women that go and buy CTR's the engine revs to 8500 or what ever and they shift at 2500, its not good for the engine. coke ?

Thanks for the info everyone! repped all

Just to add to what don55 said, engine designers dont let you overrev an engine, that is what a limiter is for. However, even though bouncing an engine off the limiter is not a good idea, using the rev's it was designed to do does no harm whatsoever, obviously this is assuming that its kept in good nick with the correct ammount of oil

yer forgot to mention the limiter, cheers ross.

modern engines don't coke up, it's only carbed engines that do really, as they don't burn so cleanly and efficiently. Or modded engines that aren't mapped properly.

higher revs will wear the engine quicker.
make sure the oil is hot and a saxo engine should take 150k+ using the full rev range every day.

revving too low can cause quite a lot of damage, try not to go below 1500rpm. if the engine is reverberating through the interior it's because of vibration, which is caused by the fact 4 cylinder engines aren't that well balanced, but that vibration is coming from the whole bottom end of your engines internals...

    what he said ^^

give it some shit now and again when its warm and itll be fine..

ye basically dont rev it every time, but opening up the throttle every now and again is good. People who say its good to rev a car all the time don't know what they're talking about as engine wear is more intense the faster all the parts are moving obviously, but driving like a gran all the time can make your car a bit choked up, so it is good to floor it sometimes

Dont do it from cold, i also tend to give the car 5 minutes when it says its warmed up just so the gearbox gets warmed up and the whole engines warm not just the inner.

Tearing it around for a long time at high RPM is going to wreck it. Try not to dump the throttle at high revs, bring it up a gear and then lay off the throttle. But generally a 5 minute blast here and there should keep it happier than 5 minutes on the autobahn over 120mph.

If you drive it like you stole it then service it regular and ensure you put a GOOD oil in it.

And dont forget about brake fade - saxos love extreme brake fade.
