ENGINE TRANSFER QUERY

  1. #1
I own a 97' VTR and im wondering what sort of price i would be expected to pay for a new VTR engine and fitting.

Also what would a mod like this do to the insurance?

    cheers

not sure if it would do anything to the engine as your changing like for like.

    About £800-£1000 fitted?

Why a vtr for a vtr?

Jus think there's a few problems with engine but will get someone to look at the whole thing

wouldnt it be cheaper to have the other fixed or reconditioned?

new engine will be more expensive to fit as all the wiring is different and some of the plugs(only word to describe them) are different. easier to have an engine from a similar year car.

normally there is only a few plugs that change, map sensor and crank so if you swap the sensors over from your car to new engine should be ok and work on normal ecu. Im sure the later silvertops had things like knock sensors and twin lambdas so although that wouldnt cause a problem its 2 vital areas that its missing, but it would work. All you would need is the engine and then swap it and use your ecu and wiring, but i dont think it would be a straight swap unless you got the same block, ie blacktop to blacktop. Now that I think about it the later silvertops had a coil on top of the plugs and no leads so your loom wouldnt have this connector so you would have to swap the coil pack inplace of your coil and leads.

i know they are quite different though as me and a mate had a go at putting my old vtr engine into a mk2 1.1.

    anyway it was alot different.
