is this defo gear linkage?

   All gears are fine except 5th, if i put it into 5th and go to accelerate is pops out.
   
   I can hold the gearstick in place and its fine 9 times out of 10 but sometimes it goes all juddery and pops out.
   
   The gearbox was fine i was told and theres no whining or anything, Just a little squeaky but thats the actual gear leaver not the box.

   I disagree this would be the box - not the linkages, there may be a problem with 5th gear or the syncromesh but I would not have said linkages!

   wont cost you 400 quid for a new box, just get a 1.1/1.4 box from the breakers yard its like 70-150 quid and im sure you can find someone local to fit it for a lot less

   yea i guess, altho a 1.1 box in a vtr? would only get to 60 in 5th lol.

   You could contact a gearbox specialist and see if they can sort it out without you having to replace the box, it may be a £100 job with them, so well worth looking at!!!

   Doesn't sound like gear linkages to me, the problem I've got with my car struggling to get into 1st and 2nd gear is gear linkages!
   
   Have a hunt around for a 2nd hand gearbox tbh or ring around for some quotes on getting yours repaired if it is possible.

   yea, only prob is i have a 106 rallye box on it. what would it be like with a 1.1 box on? how shorter will the ratios be? any ideas on max speed per gear?

    As tou said already 60mph in 5th gear. You'd do better looking for a 1.4 Furio box this would give you better ratios and your top speed shouldn't really be affected that much!
