A few questions (Newbie stuff!)

  1. #1
New to these forums so if this is the wrong place i do apologize!

    *history*

had my saxo VTR (W reg 98bhp) for about 10-11 months, in this time i have done a few bits (intake, back box (need rest of system ATM) most of the money i have spent on the car has been for re placing original parts (timing belt, alternator belt, manifold gasket, disc's & pads) Reason for this is i want a sound base to start from.

was wondering if i fitted a bike carb (with the rest of a Exhaust system) what kind of gain's will i be getting? and in the past i think my car has been remaped because i got a 0-60 of 8.5sec and it pisses all over VTR's round my area (Mansfield, in nottinghamshire) and how would i go about the injectors? and electrical stuff? is it hard to fit carbs instead?

I'm not a complete mechanic newbie (i know 'roughly' how to do a lot of stuff but not being in the trade means I'm not quite up to scratch but that's where you guys come in

i understand that fitting one wont make it a super car but i want people to think 'that looks mint' when i open my bonnet.

and would a VTS throttle body fit a VTR without any probs? and would it increase anything? or just a pointless swap?

cheers in advice, and please dont grill me too hard im new to this game!!!

2000 W will be a 90bhp vtr! Post a pic of your engine!

0-60 was it professionally timed or on the stopwatch as a stock vtr rev limit means 3rd is needed for 60!

its the silver top (was under the impression that there was a black and silver top) just uploading pic now

it was only on a stopwatch and i had to change to 3rd just as i hit about 55-57ish (changed at around 5800 revs)

as far as I'm aware it has a mk1 exhaust (Cat under the car) suspicions are the person who had it before me had a full s/s Exhaust on it and removed it before selling it.

also only fitted the intake at the weekend and the engine seems to be getting a a lot hotter (i know the weather has warmed up but i suspect its due to it not being an enclosed intake? or would that not have any effect?)

Yeah engine will be getting a lot hotter due to the fact that the filter will be getting a lot of heat soak and not much cold air. Could always opt for an enclosed to reduce heat soak, or pipe your current one right to the front of the bay to help prevent it.

    thought so, cheers

ok fitted a bit of pipe to induction kit to bring it further forwards

can anyone help me on the other questions?

also does anybody know anyone that is selling the cooling fans off a vts? thats is fairly local? because i cant see the for sale threads yet!

you wont be trying to fit a vts fan to your vtr will you? as the dont fit!

There are three different vtr engines, blacktop (90bhp), silvertop (90bhp - yours) & silvertop 2001+ (98bhp)

Looks like you've made it worst imo. In the first picture it has a cold air feed. Now its at front of the engine (closer to the manifold>HOT) and with no air feed.

My advice would be to get rid of that cheap air filter, then buy an enclosed such as BMC/Raceland.

If you want to get an more accurate 0 to 60 you should calculate the time it takes you to get to 66mph. As most speedo's are out by 10%.

I seriously doubt it will "piss on all other vtrs" around your area. Possibly they're not racing? Or you prepare yourself with a low gear before 'pissing all over them'.

If you want speed, Get rid of your ICE and start proper engine mods.

Dont think it would piss on other VTR's really with only an open filter like that and a backbox. And a 8.5 sec to 60 is a bit optimistic I think from the 90bhp engine.

well il try doin a 0-66 then and see what it come back as, and i knew the speedo was out by about 3mph (using them you are going... fast slow dwn things (which i thought would be over exadurating)

and suprised about the fans thought they would fit, and maybe they wernt racing but they dont go slow either.

gathered the air filter isnt the ebst when it makes a stupid amount of noise but i thought id try it befor spending £110+ on one

and when i said it pisses all over other saxo's i meant unmodified ones not tuned up ones.....my bad should have made it idiot proof

so do any of u have answers for the other questions or just the simple ones?
  14. #14
i have a w reg vtr, i was under the impression that they were only 90bhp?
