Little canisters with an orange wire going into them

I have a mk 2 vtr, Today I noticed a bit of cash had fallen down the side of my seats in the front near the seat belt buckles, So I pulled the plastic trim to one side to reach the money & found a small canister with an orange wire going into it,

    What is it ?

    seat belt pretensioner mate.

    How do they work?
  4. #4
it senses a crash basically and either snags the belt o with a greater force sets the airbag off, something like that anyway

there part of the airbag system, when you crash its kind of like a last attempt to pull the seatbelt tightertowards the person, so that they travel less, therefore less injury hopefully, pretty sure thats what they do

seat belt tensioners mate. When you have a crash it turns a spline that tightens your seat belt. As far as im away but not to be messed about with i cut the orange wire in a scrap yard to get the interior out and got " big hit" by the airbag.

He, he he, bet that was a shock, I was thinking of gettin some nice recaro style sidewinders, what do you do when you replace the seats then?
  9. #9
you simply unplug them lol - mite want to disconnect the batery or you will get a 'big hit' too lol

well i had no idea what the orange wire was that why the snips came out the back pocket and "wham". Was a gold vtr, was well sexy

Yeh, dont forget to disconnect the battery for something like half an hour before you go messing with it.
