Important! : knocking front suspension drivers side

  1. #1
i have a knocking noise every time i go over a bump , had a look and the top mount in the pic the nut that i have circled is just spining round any ideas the nut and the srew bit in the middle of it is spinning round when i tighten it the other side is solid does turn

i meant to say the other side the nut and srew middle part is solid and dosnt turn

They usually do turn together thats why there is a torx hole in the top of the thread so you can hold it still while you do up the nut. Try and tighten the nut by holding the thread still with i think is a T30 or T40 torx bit, could be loose.

tightned the nut up and now the knocking has gone ... done

your a n00b for not having it tight and trying to tighten it without the torx bit and swann neck spanner

let me explain how i looked into this further.

Your spring will be constantly putting pressure on the top mount, so either your running really stiff springs and dont have shortend shocks so when you go over bumps the spring is flying up and down doing fuck all.

Hence on landing it will make a knocking noise.

Really dont understand how a loose nut on shock would do that, unless there the springs are slightly shorter when the nuts nearly off, leaving a gap.

What i am trying to say the pressure of the springs would cause the nut to be tight anyway.

Every time i fitted top mounts i always have to wrestly it as my spring clamps are shit.

Hence why i said you sure it was that

Maybe the spring wasnt sitting correctly in the top plate? Thats one thing i was going to suggest to you.

    Never mind you sorted.
