ive just started changing my dics and pads (using the how to guide) but ive come across a problem.. when trying to get the two torx screws out the metal is really soft and it is destroying ther head. is there an easy way of removing these without destroying them and also which way am i undoing them because it says they are countersunk but it does not seem to be coming loose.

    cheers guys

hammer the torx bit straight on encase they are seized try again, if fail again, either hammer bigger torx pit on it, or a chizzle into in and use the chizzle liek a screw driver and hammer to turn it anti clockwise, this is what was done on the torx bits on my t-bars. no need for them to be tight at all.

use a star key on a rachet alto easyer than a alon key. Be really gental because if you mess up the head your fucked.

Oh yeah and please make sure you use the right size starkey

using a hammer is such a pikey way of doing it and could also end up damaging the torx bit

    your not fucked at all

plenty of ways, like steve said, hammer and chisel

when we done vipers i had to drill the head off it because it just rounded off, drilled it, cracked old disc from behind with a hammer, old disc cam off no bother, you dont need those torxs in there any how

they are only there to keep it in line with the hub so wheel bolts can go on, its not as if its keeping the disc on, i mean you have 4 big wheel bolts going through which will keep the disc in place...

hammer isnt a pikey way of doing it at all, if the head rounds its the best way to get it out, like said you dont need the screw, but its not exactly hard to get hold of a new one now is it, not exactly rocking horse shit

well. its completely rounded off so i shall be using your advice yates and drill the head off. the only thing i was worried about was replacing the screws....but if there not necessary then theres nothing to worry about

i just got a big enough drill bit to drill off the head, then smacked the disc from behind with the hammer and it popped off, then you have the thread part of the screw still sticking out, you can either get some mold grips on it and take it out, or leave it there and then when you put new disc on it will hold it in place slightly so it lines up with the hub so wheel bolts can go easily on

but as said its not necessary disc wont move if its not there as you have the 4 wheel bolts there

I just drilled mine out. As Matt says the wheelbolts hold the disk on the screws are just for allignment

is it shite a pikey way of doing it. Its a good way, before i even attempt torx bits these days i always hammer it dirrectly on, to a shock it and b force it in a bit mroe to help it grip.

your way would easily fuck you, torx bits are shite anyway.
And if you fuck out my way do as said and drill it out.

Using a hammer is a well known practice in the motor trade.

Dont worry about not replacing them, as logn as wheels are on properly the disc wont move.
