Are K&N filters waterproof

   are K&N filters waterproof?
   
   its just the 571i kit comes with a cold air feed from the bottom of the bumper, and if you go through a big puddle...
   
   seeing as they are cotton i wasn't sure but i thought all engine components had to be waterproof?

   it doesnt matter for the filter as it should have oil that will repel water, but if it sucks in lots of water into your engine then it can ruin your engine (deep puddles - submerging the inlet).

   You cant get a water proof filter its full of holes...

   I usually just run the cold air feed from where the stock one was, well out of the way of puddles and still allows cold air in

   i wouldnt ever run a filter low anyway.

   NO its not water proof, its not even weather proof, any moisture can get in. you can buy a " rain hood " off k and n if its mounted low down on the car or if your doing a lot of driving in wet weather/winter. rep for the answer plz.
