Gear gaiter and gear nob

  1. #1
I might be buying a new aftermarket gear nob but i have a 1.1 which means i have a complete rubber sleeve to for the gear stick.

My question is, if i remove the sleve to put the new nob on, can i buy a new gaiter that will fit snuggly over the gear stick and look good with the new gear nob?? if anyone has done it and can recommend one, taht would be great.

I had a little search on here and found a thread, but my question wasnt really answered on there

    Cheers for any help

Here's a couple of pics of mine mate. I need to get a gaiter surround coz there's nothing to hold the gaiter on when you take the rubber one off except a screw. I got a gaiter made for a Saxo because I thought the others wouldn't fit but I reckon they would, this one seemed a bit small tbh.

    heres mine.
i have the same problem, need a surround at the bottom as this gaiter as it dosent have the slits in it at the bottom where as the standard one does so the plastic gaiter surround fits into it if that makes sence.

heres mine, just got the gear nob today with the adapter.

and my gaiter has velcro at the top and string wich fits round the gear nob adapter perfect.
    hope this helps

it looks to me that my black vtr gaiter can clip straight onto that, then no need for the surround, and aslong as its a metal gear stick, pretty much anything can go over it, the hole on my 106gti gear knob was to loose over the stick, so i basically wrapped the top of the stick with alot of gaffa tape and jammed the gear knob in place so its quite solid now

i think i found your progress thread by accident actually, when trying to search for the answer. your pictures dont work btw lol

all i need to know, is if i take my compelte gear stick off with nob and gaiter as one, then can i jsut replace it? saying it now, it seems pretty obvious, but i dont wanna take it off and tehn realise it wont fit or something.

Oh and @ demon dan, did you jsut un clip the old gear nob.gaiter thinggg and pull it off and then replace it with the new gaiter surround and nob?

Yeah, it had a torx screw nearest to the handbrake that I undid and the rest just pulled off. Bit of a struggle but it came off in one lump ...did the old "put it into 4th, sit in the back and pull like mad" thing lol. I've got the old style gearstick, just one long metal thing, no plastic attachment. The new gaiter is leather and just pushed inside the hole and I put the torx screw back in to hold it on. I got this gearknob:

Have a read, the guy says about the different Saxo gearsticks.
Oh, the rubber one goes on and off pretty easily, I had to put mine back on a few times as I took it off to see what stick I had to tell the guy I bought the gearknob from.
