Spraying My Rocker Cover Soon...

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

Right im going to be spraying my rocker cover at the weekend and just after some advice.

Is it JUST the 2 bolts on top that hold it on and nothing else needs to be removed???

Now i no i need to sand it all down till the rust is gon etc but i have a few cans of halfauds grey primer, is this ok to use or do i need sum kind of metal primer, also can i use normal spray paint and lacquer??

now i cant afford to have the car off the road for a full day and over nigth while it drys, now i usually use the hair dryer to get things that i spray touch dry, just wondering can you put it in the oven on a low heat to bake the paint + lacquer on??

And finaly, im going to be replacing the rocker gasket at the same time, do i atach it to the engine first or the rocker cover?

Cheers for any help anyone can giv

yea its just the two nuts mate, it might be best to try and use hi temp paint instead but i used the halfords stuff on mine which worked fine though using the grey primer too, and the seal geta attached to the rocker cover first with the small rubber tab facing you. Regarding baking it best take your time and find a day where it can dry naturally as the end result will be alot better the oven or hairdryer will cause the paint/laquer to dry out too quickly therefore cracking and ending in a shite finish. Hope this helps mate.

    Hey guys,

Right im going to be spraying my rocker cover at the weekend and just after some advice.

Is it JUST the 2 bolts on top that hold it on and nothing else needs to be removed??? You may need to move a few pipes just to make it abit easier!
Now i no i need to sand it all down till the rust is gon etc but i have a few cans of halfauds grey primer, is this ok to use or do i need sum kind of metal primer, also can i use normal spray paint and lacquer?? You shouldn't need primer if you are rubbing it down and using a high temperature paint!

now i cant afford to have the car off the road for a full day and over nigth while it drys, now i usually use the hair dryer to get things that i spray touch dry, just wondering can you put it in the oven on a low heat to bake the paint + lacquer on?? Using the oven on a low heat should be fine but keep checking regularly on it!
And finaly, im going to be replacing the rocker gasket at the same time, do i atach it to the engine first or the rocker cover? If you undo the two bolts holding the rail/wire holder just behind the rocker cover this will give you more room this will also allow you to put the gasket onto the rocker cover before fitting, I only did one last weekend!
Cheers for any help anyone can giv

Yea 2 bolts that it. Used nitro mors to strip paint off. Then sand the loose stuff off. I then used heat proof paint for a few coats then used a clear laquer

there's a guy that sells these on ebay, he uses normal paint but a high temp lacquer i think, however this isn't essential. my mate has always painted his engine casing's on his bikes with normal paint and it's always fine. i will be doing mine at the weekend hopefully.
