Theres a good guide on here somewhere on how to fit raceland propperly

    Look through that link.
Raceland's are a good one to choose but theres so many on the market offering different kinds of induction, its really up to you. Alot of people go for raceland so i spose its got to be pritty good

    Others you could consider would be;

Pipercross Viper, or CDA, these are the only other ones i have seen and heard fitted.

I Viper gives a really deap roar but it depends what your after.

i have a BMC DIA, performace wise u can notice it a bit on acceleration, especially on a cold morning! its not very loud either, u can only really hear it when u put your foot down, depends what you want

hadnt found that guide before coolc! that was quite helpful as i got to see why people say it doesnt fit properly (as the guide shows)....the guide was done on a mk1 though, i have a 2002 mk2 vtr, is the engine layout much different?

thanks for the recomendations steev but they were a bit out of my price range, im looking to spend about £100.

Im looking for something that aids performance a bit and also gives a nice sound.

thanks for your help so far guys

Right mate. First things first, you will only ever get minimal performance gains from an induction kit.

Lots of manufacturers and shops claim big power gains "10bhp from fitting a viper to a 1.1 saxo!" Truth is, it doesnt and really only improves the responsiveness of the engine slightly. (How freely it revs and the time it takes to do something after putting your boot down.)

You may hear a few people mention "heat soak" this "phenomenon" is where the air in the engine bay is heated by the engine and therefore renders open filters pointless! (As they are gettin warmer air instead of cooler, more dense air.) This is not true so long as the car is moving, as soon as it is moving cool air pushes the warm air out of the engine bay. Hence why you see open filters on say, Skylines!

If you want a filter that makes a shit load of noise and improves the performance pretty much as much as the next filter i would recommend an open pipercross!

However, if you want to take the tunung of your car a lot further, an enclosed may give you that extra 0.2 of a bhpto get over a big boundary say 150bhp.

End of the day mate they all pretty much gonna do the same job in a 1.1 - 1.6!

thanks for the info steev, im a bit of a noob and reading so many conflicting things on here!! its all getting a bit confusing! lol dont have any plans for major mods so ill probably just stick with the open induction kit.

the raceland looks amazing but takes a bit of work to fit, doesnt include all parts needed either

    Glad i could help!

I hate it when people ask for advice and only get half or less of the info!

the enclosed induction kit from kam-racing is great if you are on a budget but yeah you do need to do a little modification to get it to fit as it’s a universal kit so it was designed for all saxo's and 106's but if you get some extra silicone hose you'll be fine and you'll save yourself quite a bit

Enclosed are more 'efficient' so to say, as the heat soak is eliminated. Although if an open filter is placed well, will virtually have no heat soak either.

End of the day they only add maybe 1bhp, just effects the throttle response. Just depends if you want looks in your engine bay or not... If not, you could just get a simple Green panel replacement filter to do virtually the same job for a third of the price.
