how much should i expect to pay? and what would be done

had my car a few months now, and tbh could do with a service, found out it hasnt been done in 3 years!

im going to try a few local places, but just wonderd what kind of prices i should pay? and what would be done?

i dont want to get ripped / mugged off.. ive heard storys of companies offering cheap serives, but allways finding something that has to be done so this bumps the price up

i dont want to go for the cheapest, but im not rich lol, just want a service for general engine maintanence

also, got a haynes but im not the greatest with engine stuff, and dont want to mess things up, willing to give a go depending how easy it is for a novice like me

    rep awarded...

    Shitroen dealer! *scof!*

They wont include lube in the bill so take some along if you go there.

Look in the Yellow pages and find a Citroen specialist or ask around friends and family for a reputable garage. As most places should be able to service your car.

A small service should be around £170.

But most of that will be labour so when you only see oil, spark plugs, air filter on the bill you'll wonder where your money has gone and giving it a go yourself wont seem such a bad idea. Not that im saying thats all that gets done in a service.

i have neva took my car to a citroen dealer or what u call them a shitroen dealer (joeblow) so dont no wot they wud include in the service,i was just sayin. i always fink its better to service your own car
  5. #5
Its not about what they would include or not its the price they'd charge.

Why say a Citroen dealer is the best place to go if you know nothing about them?

i always do my own services so that I know everything that should be new is new.

its worth having a go, really hard to get it wrong tbh, could probly service yourself for around 50-60 sheets depending on quality of plugs/oil etc.

    sounds good, cheers guys

    think ill have a crack

what should i do to service it?

remember im an engine novice, so not too difficult i hope

wouldnt mind learning how to do some stuff on the engine though

Mine cost 200 from a local garage that was for air filter, fuel filter spark plugs lots of oil changes think there may have been something else and then labor..

hmm.. well im getting bonus this month, over £100 (not bad for a part timer eh?)

was planning to spend it on the car

it seems to be running a bit dodgey lately.. i reckon a good service will sort it out, as it hasnt been done in a while

coz (joeblow)am obviously not from his area so dont no about the garages around there! but obviously u do dont you?

    for a full general service;

get down to halfords, find someone that looks like they know what a car is (theres usually at least one) and ask for:

    engine flush
    new oil
    oil filter
    air filter
    new spark plugs
fuel filter might be an idea but not essential

    you'll need a spark plug wrench/socket
    a socket set
and a pair of oil filter pliers (failing that ram a screwdriver through the old one)

    hope that helps

    nice one andy

    any ideas of costs?

im sure ill afford it, just a ball park figure if possible?

    also, whats engine flush?
  14. #14
engine flush is a liquid you pour in with the old oil, run the engine for 15 mins and it cleans all the shite off the inside of your engine, then once you drain out the old oil the engines nice and clean

oil and plugs probly bout 40 notes, filters are cheap as, probly a tenner for the two, engine flush i think is a fiver, if you let me know the year and engine size i'll look in work tomorrow and get an accurate quote for you

When did I say I knew anything about the garages in his area, hence I said look in the Yellow pages or ask around his area. I said a Citroen dealer garage would be expensive (which it will be wherever you go).

You said that a Citroen dealer would be the best place to go and then said you'd never taken your car to a Citroen garage and dont know about the garages in his area.

So how can you say that is the best place to go ffs?!

Its like someone asking for fast food and me saying McDonalds is the best place to go even though I've never been to a McDs or know what fast food options are available in his area.

    Comprende?

    any update andy?
  18. #18
£160 dont no how much 4 a major service but would get it done if it aint been do in 3 years
  19. #19
easiest thing in the world to do mate honestly

it looks and sounds as bad as it is but if you have some basic tools theres no reason why you cant do it, parts and oil etc should only cost about 40 -50 quid at the most

just like to say, thanks for all the help guys

done the service today (with help from my dad)

idling problem has gone, no longer bogs down, and feels generally a good car to drive again

all for the cost of £35
