right at the moment ive got a raceland induction kit and full exhaust system with a decat and that has produced 134 bhp on a rr. im thinking bout what to do next. what would u guys reccomend? i was thinking 4-2-1 manifold then mayb some cams. but i dont have a clue about cams and what wud be the best ones, ur advice would b greatful

which car? vts? - ah yes, its on the left lol.

up to you where to go now - turbo, s/charger, t/bodies, or standard inlet, 708's and a remap
  3. #3
Go for the raceland manifold next mate. That will free up a bit more power. I'd go for Catcam 708s on your engine. They can produce upto 160bhp with the mods listed in your post.
  4. #4
yea thats what i was thinking, would they need a remap then? how much are remaps roughly?
  5. #5
    yes, £450ish
  6. #6
ok cheers think i will go for the manifold next then the cams when ive saved up a bit lol
  7. #7
if you are going to go throttle bodies, i would recommend getting standalone management now, otherwise you'll have to buy the remap, then the standalone and map...
  8. #8
tbh i dont think im going to go down the throttle body route
  9. #9
Your biggest priority is setting an end point. If its cams then do your manifold and remap option. If you decide to go for throttle bodies later on you'll end up spending twice. Save yourself the money in the long run and do it how you want it first time round.

I presume George that you no longer recommend the GMC manifold after the argument you and John had on SSC?
  11. #11
Well its hard to say really. I don't think there's any need to spend anymore on a manifold than a raceland for most engines. The GMC works well at the top of the revs and sounds good. Its also a good fit. However, neither the Gmc or the Raceland work particially well when you start dealing with some serious overlap.

so would u recommend the racland manifold?

for 99% of set ups yes.

I have a 190+bhp Vts engine and it runs a raceland manifold.

    no you havent, qep have

Raceland is cheap(ish) and cheerful... very popular with us lot too, never let us down yet.

However... I'd recommend getting cams done, then the exhaust manifold, then a remap. The remap should ideally be done last because then it'll make your mods work to their very best. If you can, get them all done at the same time, same day. Be a bloody long day, get up around 6, tootle down to somewhere who will do a proper rolling road remap for you and then get all the kit installed there.

I would imagine your best bet would be a manifold, cams, remap.

However be careful, if you decide at a later date you want different cams, TB's or a mixture there of, its going to cost you extra.

Choose the parts you want and find the point at which you will be happy with.

I used the raceland on my VTR, never had a problem with it other than the dodgy fit.

Why cams before manifold? Manifold should be done first surely. The car is going to be throwing out more exhaust gasses and there just going to get stuffed in a standard mani.

The way I'm doing mine is having a reprofiled cam, and then having a manifold made for that cam. That's why I'd always go cam first, because I'd rather study the characteristics of the exhaust gases after I've done the cam so I can have a manifold that will work with it perfectly.
  20. #20
If its only a mild reprofiled cam I wouldn't bother spending the cash on a custom manifold tbh.

would have thought that the primaries would be to small on yours.

although maybe the pugsport manifold on porki/alex's engine the primaries are to large.

The raceland works perfect on 808s, it doesn't work on 809s though. The Maniflow does't work on the 809s, I'm not sure about the pugsport tbh.
