hallo! im after some bigger brakes for my 2002 vts. i have a limited budget as i dont start my job untill next week so ive been to a couple of scrap yards today and ive found some 266mm discs and calipers off of a 406 ( im not exactly sure of the engine size, think its either a 1.8 or a 2.0). does anyone no if they will fit ok and work correctly or is there any other cars that wud av more compatible discs and calipers? any help is much appriciated cheers!
  2. #2
they wont work. you cant use the 406 brakes unless using the brembos. 206, 306, 207, 307 etc is fine though.

306 GTi6 brakes are like rocking horse shit to be honest, good ones are anyway. I think you will find most people who have a set know what they have got and will charge accordingly. If you dont know what your looking for then those that dont have a set will tell you they have and pass off any old shite. I dont know what sort of budget you have in mind but GTi6 brakes are going to cost you. It might be worth waiting untill you have started your job rather than to rush into it and buy something that turns out to be a pile of crap. It could end up costing you more in the long run.

You could get some re-manufactured from GSF (German Swedish French) or euro car parts. They are a lot cheaper than 'new' ones from Peugeot and you can be 100% certain that they will be better than some of the second hand shite i have seen.

pm zaine on here, he might have one, if not 266's from a berlingo or similar are perfectly adequate and a good upgrade if you use decent pads and discs

euro car parts in leeds do reconditioned gti6 brakes then?
  20. #20
gti-6 front calipers from euro car patrs is £64 each plus vat but i dont know if that would include carriors and obv no disks
  21. #21
nice one mate. do u no how much the discs are and is that price for the calipers for the pair?
  22. #22
think that is just for one caliper but that was the only placed i have look so far as have nt lookd into prices to much yet there is loads of places though like gsf wilco etc that will sell therm and i would rather save a bit and buy new than buy second hand and i think ypou can get grooved dics for around the £70 mark but like i said i have nt check prices out so dnt just take my word for it

I think it includes the carriers but what you have to take into account is the £25 sure charge (per caliper). In other words you put the £25 down and when you weigh in your old calipers you get it back. Its a way for them to get your old calipers back so they can start their process all over again. I recon you could blag them with your VTR calipers, so long as Euro car parts get a set to send back i dont think they will be too fussed. Its something i am going to have to do if i go down the GTi6 route with mine, but i want to keep the VTR calipers. I think the re-manufactured GTi6 brakes are about £89 each including sure charge but dont quote me on that. Obviously with the sure charge back your only paying £64 each. Shop around though because GSF are cheaper by a long shot and i think they only charge you £20 sure charge.

  27. #27
been to scrappers today an the brakes off the van av gone. ive been to euro car parts and they want 65 quid each for the gti-6 brake calipers as well as some calipers to trade in, looks like my bigger brake plan has gone out of the window for along time
  28. #28
    gsf and eurocarparts ftw!
i reckon for a full gti-6 conversion you'll need £300, hope this helps
  29. #29
yea mate i went to euro car parts yesterday and they gave me a price on the calipers 80 quid each with retention i cant remember wot other prices were for the discs and pads are coz the list is in the car

zara picasso brakes are 283mm and can be picked up from scrappies for about 30-40 quid everything inc discs and will fit under a 15inch alloy with minute grinding just for the book xx
  33. #33
I got a set of 283mm brakes off a 406 and they went straight on my R. They look pretty much identical to my mates GTI-6 brakes. Weird seeing as they aren't Brembos but aye, £40....Bargain.
