1.1 to vtr conversion gearbox?

  1. #1
    Just a quick question.

On converting my current 1.1 to a vtr next year will I be wise leaving the 1.1 gearbox and keeping the current driveshafts and 3 stud hubs, or converting the hubs to 4 stud (including new driveshafts, new hubs, new gearbox).

Apparently the vtr can run on the 1.1 gearbox, but won't this nacker the box altogether running that power through it?

Also it helps me consider my future wheel purchases and whether it's going to work out the price I want.

    Cheers for any advice.

would suggest uprating to 4 stud yes.
alot of different views on the 1.1 box on a vtr it has a shorter ratio so increases acceleration but decreases top end, but eventually you will nacker it quicker than a vtr box, best bet is look a vts box which gives shorter ratios lower end and higher top end if you have the power there or look for a rallye box but hard to find these days

    Cheers for that stendog

Was worried about that. Will have to sort the hub conversion, put off wheels and wait for the conversion when I start my placement year at uni....

    Any other views?

right mate i currently considering a VTS conversion that i am going to start doing very shortly as soon as i get the money....it would be very advisbale tat you changed as you can have bigger brakes and they would be needed with the 1.6 engine. Like sten said you can run a 1.1 gearbox but only for a short white before it gets torn apart. I would go for a VTR box aswell. Not sure if the XSI box fits ask around

Will do matey I'm keeping a close eye on your thread for the development tbh, post a good guide as you do it

tbh I should save for the four stud conversion and wheels, no alloys for a year then/money allows

Mrs. thinks the 1.1i is quick enough, mother told her it's a "man thing, let him go for the engine in the future"
