Depends on what products you are going to use, for example i have managed to find some excellent spraying material which i applied just after cleaning the part and it gave me a quick drying, metallic gloss finish which looks great!

Hi there, Have you removed the plastics yet?

Basically use a blunt knife or something simular and use it to pull the air vent covers and speaker covers out.

The centre console has torx screws holding it in, T20.

    As for spraying.

Yes you'll need to sand, as chances are theres some chemicals that might react with the paint.

Sand the plastics down with p100/150, so they are quite rough.

    Spray them with primer

    Leave to dry

Sand with high grade sandpaper, say 250-300

    Spray with primer again

    Leave to dry

    Sand with p400

    Spray with primer again

    Leave to dry,

    Sand with p600ish

    Now spray with your colour

    Leave to dry

    Sand with p800

    Spray again with your colour

    Leave to dry

    Sand with p800ish

    Leave to dry

    Spray again with colour

    Leave to dry

    Spray with Clear Laquer

    Leave to dry

    Spray with Clear Laquer

    Leave to dry

    Spray with Clear Laquer

    Leave to dry

    Refit them all.

    Hi,

Is all that necessary? Like i said i bought a good spraying can (Metallic Blue) and applied it right away after i gave them a good clean. The spray dries highly well in about 5 hours and the finishing is extremely neat. I will be posting some pictures of them very soon.

    Hi there,

That way i have listed is the proper way. If you want to do a bodge job you could do 1 layer primer, 1 layer paint, 1 layer laquer.

I wouldnt spray straight onto the plastic without sanding and without any primer as the paint will just bubble/flake after a while.

    Hi,

To get the dials surround out you may have to remove the steering wheel, or atleast take the support columns out so you can drop it down abit.. Are you up for a biggish job? I can talk you through it if you wish.

cheers, sorry its just the plastic bit before the dials. is tht easier.
  9. #9
Yeah thats what i meant, You cant just pull it off. It is only two tiny torx screws that hold it in, but the steering wheel is in the way to pull it out, if you get me?

So steering wheel either needs to come off or dropped.

I have heard of people squeezing it / forcing it through the steering wheel gap but wouldnt recommend you try it tbh.

okay. so how do you get it out then?. cheers for the help btw.

Basically you need to take the steering wheel off.

But before you touch anything, disconnect the battery and leave it for 10 minutes disconnected. Do not reconnect it at all during the job. (If you dont do this, your airbag will explode in your car).

I'll let you know more in the morning, As i dont want to miss a step out and mess you up.

Basically all you need though is to disconnect the airbag (WHILST BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED) Undo a load of torx screws, then put it all back together.

I'll post again in the morning with simple instructions how to do it. Need to have a look at mine first.

Get the set off eBay, works out about the same in cost as if you did it yourself
