  1. #1
how much to convert my vtr 1.6 to a mean 1.6 turbo, possible with nos also need some guide prices for this and were to et fitted should have about top end £4000 for this in a year but need start looking now
    any help please
    thanks for your time
  2. #2
to do it right and run big power 4k isnt enough unless your pretty handy at fabricating etc
  3. #3
cituning are doing a turbo kit for the vtr for £2500 with free fitting, have a look on their website; cituning.co.uk. not sure about the nos ,cituning might do that 2.
  4. #4
cituning kit is arse and wont run anywhere near big power
  5. #5
you cant expect to just but a turbo kit then install it and everything will run fine , it wont. i know a lot of people on here have turbo oe supercharged saxos but i think that spending at least 4k on a saxo is insane
  6. #6
scott i know citunings kits wont give him BIG power but for his 4k he'll be able to get that and his noz, still be quick.
  7. #7
but the thing is the cituning kit is actually arse.

THe manifold is poor, the pressure switch to sense boost is poor, no extra injectors or anything so low low power increase.

Go to carworx and get far far more for your money
  8. #8
i would defo go to carworx mate,i have heard not good reports about cituning
  9. #9
was only thinking of the money hes got.
  10. #10
what sorta money would u be expecting to pay from carworx ?
  11. #11
start from £2.5k upto how ever much dosh you have, ideally your looking at 3k cos you will need a clutch and some better brakes.
  12. #12
id go for a supercharger over the turbo route personaly, better reliability iv heared and for 210/220bhp at the wheels in a vts ur looking at 5/6k fitted
  13. #13
SAXO / 106 8 valve no cooler gives 110 to 118 bhp at the wheels which equals a 50% increase.

SAXO / 106 8 valve with intercooler 140 to 155 bhp at the wheels which equals 90% increase.

SAXO / 106 16 valve no cooler gives 140 to 150 bhp at the wheels which equals 50% increase

SAXO / 106 16 valve with intercooler gives 175 to 185 bhp at the wheels which equals 90% increase

    or www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk

Each conversion has its plus and minus points, persoanlly i would go turbo but if someone was to do me a s/c on the cheap i certainly wouldnt say no
  16. #16
theres a rotrex sc on ssc for sale at £600 thatl save u over £700 buying a new one and its the 84 which is the largest one
  17. #17
    its no the largest one
  18. #18
ha s/c lol dont make me laugh at being more reliable, do you know the stats on the units? 6 out of 10 fail and have to be sent back to rotrex for rebuilts, good thing rotrex are a good company and do it all for free, but it takes 2 weeks to turn it around assuming you send it off straight away, never EVER heard of a turbo unit failing. If turbos are done with the same care and attention as the "DEVELOPED" supercharger route then problems are minimum like s/c, but what you get is someone making their own turbo kit and either not doing the cooling side properly or not mapping it properly, its harder to map a car when the air/fuel changes so rapidly(from say 2.5k you have 0psi and then 3k you have 12psi? quite a large jump that) where as supercharger is progressive so pi$$ easy to map in comparison. But turbos are more fun to drive, they will make more power than a s/c (check simos graph against the s/c one, same revs more power on the turbo side until simos T2 becomes a restriction)

    da da!

gaf vts ant ad his charged for long n his went bang, pissing oil out so you can add his to the UNreliable list ratty my friend. goes like f**k wen its running tho pal, eats scoobies, rst's, 350 bhp cosworth transit van running laughing gas on the 1/4 mile strip ........ no sweat
  20. #20
very good that race my friend
  21. #21
neva forget that pal, that woz without the charger wont it! clio wasnt far in front with the tt turbo lump last time either bruv
  22. #22
yes cant beat a charged VTS quality fun, but when your charging you have to expect things to go wrong and notice them early, as im sure you will know Charged VTS the most unappreciated super car
  23. #23
fuck me mate ur motor must be quick cos the figs on cliosport for that tt engined clio are near enough the same power to weight of a ferrari 360 and hes hopeing for low 12s
  24. #24
only 1 saxo has ever broke into the 12second barrier and that was with an uber close ration box (12.88 i believe, mr leeks) to get into the 13s you have done really well, but any front wheel drive car will struggle to get really low times compared to RWD or 4WD.
  25. #25
get bucky onto the 4 wheel drive
  26. #26
ha ha hes already researched it, interesting stuff actually, but how and when is the things, some of the parts are uber expensive, but I did hear him saying it can be done even easier with the BE3 box rather than the MA so since hes already got one im watching that space
  27. #27
would be interesting to see how the front diff would work, i imagine the prop and rear diff would be "easier" to set up than the front given that it could probably be robbed from another car and cut and shut in
  28. #28
Can tou turbo a blacktop vtr?
  29. #29
yes you can but most dont due to lack of knock sensor and a few other things
  30. #30
skipp123 it is very quick mate,i am going to have a race with him a week today at melbourne if he is there.it was john from gmc that got into 12.88 was'nt it.
  31. #31
no cant remember the boys name that hit the 12.88, simon leek??
  32. #32
So a S/C VTS can beat a scoobie and a cossie etc you mean off the line and top speed or what, just curious
  33. #33
off the line not a chance 4 wheel drive launches far to well but after that yes.

Top speed is a different thing but the saxo can hit 163mph and it can hit it reasonably quickly.
  34. #34
Scott: not sure if there was a 4x4 system that used BE3??? if not he must have worked out a way to make it work, he already has the BE3-MA housing so i assumed thats how he would be doing it.

Simon Leeks, yup thats him did 12.88 at elvington with his bitch box (topped out at 112) but boy did it get there fast, only problem was on motorway you were doing about 6k at 70 in 5th.

Aye if your charger can keep the puff going high up in 5th its no bother getting to those speeds. Been to 6.5k in 5th on the VTR box with VTS engine which was off the clock but turbo was starting to drop boost as only small T25 at the time but can and has been done by a few people, although I cant see the poing in doing those speeds unless you want to prove that it can and thats it, much prefer acceleration and 0-100 etc.
  35. #35
agreed 160mph is pretty much useless.

6k at 70mph fuck that must have been hell.

  36. #36
he loved the acceleration which would have been great if it was a track car but as an every day can that would really pi$$ you off lol
  37. #37
What turbo are you running now Ratty ?
Did I read somewhere yours wasnt on the road at the mo ?
Any way to distinguish what turbo is on a car. Size etc?

Anyone got Will's number to hand? May aswell ring while I'm at work.
  38. #38
T28 with larger wheels, cars not on the road at the mo cos changing shit loads to make this RR meet for the high power cars, not expecting to get anywhere near the big boys but I still want to make a large splash in the pond

Should be marked on the turbo but its to do with its size and displacement, T2 boosts early but runs out of puff high up, T25 boosts simular but holds boost (ideal for VTR or MED power VTS) T28/T3 boosts later but boosts hard and holds higher up. All to do with compressor and exahust wheel sizes, ie a Hybrid T25 might have a T3 compressor and a T25 exahust (so spools fast and boosts well) etc.
  39. #39
    I see. Cheers mate.
Going to take a close look later.

Dont have the number for Will @ Carworx do you ?
