How do i know when to replace them ?

and how long do they usually last ?

sparks wil normally last a shit load of time but they are normally changed every 10k miles

course plugs can make difference! if the 1ns uve got in are shite n you change them 4 1ns that produce a bigger spark its gotta be helpin the engine work more efficiently???????

obviously if the plugs are fucked then new plugs will make a difference, but "performance" plugs will not work any better over standard plugs, bigger or smaller spark, a spark will ignite the mixture regardless of size.

only if the current ones are dodgy, if they arnt then they are set to run the same, some create a better spark but they are doing the same thing which is ign the air and fuel, you only run cooler plugs for charged cars or nos or high compression etc.
