Numberplates

I'm after a new set of plates, but don't want anything on the bottom.
Been told it''s illegal for some reason though... This true?

You have to by law have the name of the garage the car is from, or if buying them from a shop you have to have their name on the bottom. Although I have never heard of a copper pulling someone and checking this and if so all you need to do is tell them you will change them straight away!

So I couldn't go into Halfords and get a pair of plain ones then?

the writing in halfords is white so can only see it up close anyways!

As said really< i've got halfords ones on and you can only just see their name and it's only little but for law reasons at least it's on there!

Numberplates have to display the suppliers name and postcode at the bottom. And from 1st November this year they will no longer be allowed to include company or manufacturers logos, web addresses, or telephone numbers.

Ive got plain ones though and never had a problem

You shouldn't have a problem mate. If you do just say that you asked for normal one's they gave you them.

You wont have a problem if you have plain ones.

Noone in their right mind would pull you over for something as stupid as that. As long as the letting is spaced properly with the correct font theyll be fine.

Id even go as far as to say if you do ever get pulled for that (which i have absolute confidence that you wont) then ill even pay your £30 fine for giving this advice

i read that you only have to have the suppliers name and post code on the new style plates ..51 onwards

    Cheers lads.
Rang a few places earlier and one of them said they do them for me if I signed something saying I'd use them as show plates and not on the road. So I'll do that!
