C3 engine in saxo?

  1. #1
    hello all
im new here, and a total nub in mechanics
my Saxo VTS from 2001 has a big engine problem (huge crack, thats making it consume water like crazy and overheat)
i have to replace the engine, but cant find any engine from other saxo VTS
a guy in a store with many car parts, told me that C3, or C2 engine can be put in a Saxo
is that true? can i buy a C3 1.4 engine and put it on my saxo? looked at it at seems almost exactly like mine

Why go for a 1.4 when you have a VTS?

    What year is the car?

Engines can be found and yes C2 lumps are a quite common swap though a few things need to be modified.

ebay seems a bit sparce for VTS engines... but heres are a VTS engines from ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-106-GT...3286.m20.l1116

and 106 GTI engines will fit into a VTS, as they are ther same engine

wouldnt get a 1.4 as you have a 1.6 VTS you will see a big drop in peformance

my saxo is a 2001 Citroen Saxo VTS 1.4
the 1.6 is the Saxo CUP
Here in portugal its like this, dont know if its diferent in other countries

i saw a C2 engine, and looked a bit diferent from mine, but the C3 one didnt

Yeah mate in the UK we have 1.6 VTR's and 1.6 VTS, diffrence being a VTR is 8 valves and the VTS is 16 valve.

To be honest try get hold of a 1.6 VTS engine or VTR from the UK would be good, if not then i cant say weather a C2 or C3 engine would fit as you already have diffrent cars

but... anyone knows if its too expensive to fit the engine?
dont know if the supports are the same
enphasis again on "im a mechanics nub" that i said on 1st post

all fittings are the same but if you get a 1.6 VTS engine you will need the loom and preferably ECU, prices are very varyed as each garage will charge differently it can be anything from £400 to £1k it depends on the work required

at a guess your going to need a new loom or rewire the current loom, custom engine mounts, the driveshafts will probably be different aswell, gear will be different, etc...

the list will be endless and in my opinion its pointless as there will be no gain from it apart from you have a newer engine.

well i just want to have my car up and running
tired of being afraid of it someday break the engine for good cause of overheating
Reminds me of my Mini days when i had to put 2 litres of water everyday still hasnt come to that fortunatly

cant find saxo 1.4i engines anywhere. and dont know if its legal in portugal to put a peugeot engine
