  1. #1
Hi New here but hope someone can help!
01 vtr . When stationary or moving slow, as i start to turn (either way!) the steering clicks, wheel vibrates and can hear clunk sound! all other times ok and doesn't affect driving!
    Any ideas ?? cheers

Please note has been lowered, but dont know how much!!

Sounds like driveshaft mate, when lowered it puts more strain on them, jack the car up and inspect the shaft, see if theres any leaks or play in it.

Ever herd of Bed's Batterie (Bedford Battery)? Its based in the town cente of Bedford. They do ALL car parts, anything really. Thats where i get my parts from.

They are not over priced, if anything cheaper then on the net.

I got a drive shaft for £90 (inc VAT) but this was on the basis that when i return my old one i got £60 refunded back on my card. These are refurbished ones but when i had a look it looked new, infact i think it was majority of new parts.

Well depends what one... When i first got my car and took it for a test drive i knew it needed a new CV joint, it was my right one i think... its pritty easy to sort out, go round a few bends slowly and which ever side its comming from is that side thats gone..

I would just replace the one tbh. There not too hard to replace.

P.s. I'd get it done sooner or later, if your CV joint snaps, then you will loose drive to that wheel and then you'll have no power.

Thanks............Does it both sides ah well at least i know they both will have been done!!
  16. #16
Well if you can HEAR the noise from both sides, then its obv both gone..

But if it's when you turn the steering wheel both sides then it could be just one.
  17. #17
if it cv joint should get it looked at asap. when they go they do damage.
  18. #18
    Thanks everyone
  19. #19
if you dont get it looked at soon this could happen (well it did to mine)!!
  20. #20
    What happened?
  21. #21
i had that 'clicky-clonk' noise coming from the passanger side for a while, then one day it popped out that ball and socket behind the wheel and ripped the drifeshaft out!!
  22. #22
    ball joints bet ya
  23. #23

Right, time to get mine sorted out. might be worth a trek to bedfordshire if i can get a £60 rebate (fuck it, i'll take the tools and do it on the day when im there
  26. #26
No not yet. getting garage to have a look first, wont cost much! then get whichever i need, or both
but will go over there, at them prices i gotta!
  27. #27
hey chinkostu, if you go there same time as me, you can do mine too!
  28. #28
mines doing this i think?, i have a S reg vtr, when i take corners going left quite fast it feels like sumthing is rubbing on the right hand side? obviously because of the wieght shifting onto the right hand side of the car?
ALSO when stationary if i turn the steering left and right about a full turn on the wheel it makes a loud click/clunking noise?
ive taken it to a few different people to be looked at and i seem to just be getting guess's on what its is so far ive been told
    wheel bearing?
    cv joint?
    possible driveshaft?
    wishbone?

can any1 give me a definate answer to the problem from the description because i really want to get it sorted soon as.

Hi, update on suspected driveshaft probs!!
It turns out that the driveshafts are fine
It was in fact the shocks!! yeh both pistons loose and chuckin out oil.
was up on ramp and mechanic showed me the movement!
so two shocks needed! btw they quoted me £300 inc for the work!
    can't afford that!!!
will let you know more as it happens!
    see ya
  30. #30
    that looks expensive
  31. #31
ohh i got a little knocking noise- gonna get it checked now
  32. #32
Can get a pair of shocks for £40 posted, hopefully!
Then find someone to fit cheap, shouldn't be too expensive
